Disrupt Space and Time: Win a 3D SpaceNavigator

space-navigator.jpgAhh, It’s one stormy day before April. What better time than this to give away a SpaceNavigator courtesy of 3DConnexion. Don’t know what it is? It’s a 3D mouse that allows you to move every which way in a 3D environment. I’ve been using one and really like it after getting use to it.

So, in honor of being able to manipulate things in 3D, I’m giving a SpaceNavigator away to a randomly chosen person. All you have to do is a leave a comment below. Tell me what you think the future of CAD will be like or how you want to use this thing. As an added bonus if you follow me on Twitter and send me a message, your name will be entered twice. Just type:

@solidsmack I want to win the SpaceNavigator!!

The winner will be announce this Friday, April 4th at noon (CST)!!

If You Can Model Something Like This…

architechture-in-solidworks.jpg…you could win a SolidWorks compliant video card.

CGSociety.com is tempting you to make something more inspirational that a block sitting on a mound of dirt. With some of the submission already, it’s more like a dare for SolidWorks users.

Personally, I’m not sure if anyone can do create an architectural marvel in SolidWorks that could rival something created in another program. I hope some one proves me wrong, of course, and waves a brand new nVidia Quaddro FX 5600 in my saddened face.

The prizes may get your creative juices flowing:
1st Prize: 2 x NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600 cards and 1 week ‘all inclusive’ holiday valued at $10,000 (USD).
2nd Prize: NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600 and a $500 (USD) American Express Gift Card.
3rd Prize: NVIDIA Quadro FX 3700 and a $500 (USD) American Express Gift Card.

SpaceClaim Turns On the Charm

spaceclaim logoSo, SpaceClaim has been sending out the vibes for a while and now they’re turning on the charm with a little contest.

For those that are not aware, SpaceClaim is a CAD system, that is either trying to take over SolidWorks… or complement it. I’m not sure yet, but, I’ll tell you right now, it’s a smooth and sultry divination of history-free design.

We’ll wait to see what happens in the world o’ CAD with this bunch, but in the meantime we’ll enter their contest and take free software from them. Here’s the scoop.

Good ol’ Howie Markson from SpaceClaim was nice enough to let me know (last week-i’m slow) they’re hosting this challenge to win a seat of SpaceClaim 2007+ (1 year subscription.) All you have to do is record yourself importing and modifying a CAD file. This is a perfect chance to try out the Free Camtasia Studio software.

There’s four criteria to aim at:

  • Degree of difficulty of the design modifications
  • Complexity of the model
  • Credibility of the modifications and the use case
  • The “entertainment factor”

All this is saying is, you will win if your video is cool. If it’s lame, forget it. Good examples are here. Here’s my example of lame.
