CADFaster 3D model collaboration for iPad and iPhone

3D model viewing is about to get way more interesting. Just a little over a month ago, we featured a group of developers out of Finland aimed at shaking up the web-based CAD collaboration scene, CADfaster. They’re not disappointing at all.

Today, they release the news of their mobile applications for iPad and iPhone that will allow you to do the same thing as the stand-alone, desktop application. The “same thing” being, real time viewing and collaboration of your 3D CAD files. Here’s a first look at how you’ll be able to view your models and collaborate with others, where ever you are with your mobile device.

CadFaster First to Render Cloud-Based 3D Collaboration on

iPad and iPhone with Full Detail and Components in Real-time

CadFaster|Collaborate online computing software running on mobile devices makes it possible to view and annotate large 3D models anywhere

SOLIDWORKS WORLD 2011, SAN ANTONIO – January 20, 2011 — Riding the new wave of enterprise mobility, CadFaster, Inc. (http://www.cadfaster.com/) today announced that its CadFaster|Collaborate™ online software tool for the real-time annotation and co-viewing of 3D CAD models is being demonstrated on both the iPad and iPhone at SolidWorks World 2011 in CadFaster booth #136. CadFaster|Collaborate is the first online solution to be able to render large 3D models on a mobile operating system with full details and components in real-time.

CadFaster|Collaborate was specifically developed to dramatically increase collaboration, productivity and effectiveness for Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC), mechanical and plant design firms seeking the fast reading and smooth handling of complex and large CAD data files. The tool is distinguished by its ability to allow distribution, annotation, and real-time co-viewing of diverse 3D designs using portable executable files that include CadFaster’s popular and reliable 3D engine, the fastest and most efficient 3D viewer on the market.

Age of mobile 3D CAD Viewing

The ability to view and interact with 3D models has needed to happen for a long, long time. There’s no lack of 3D viewers out there right now – 3DVIA has one, Rhino has one, you can view Inventor files via the Inventor publisher app, but there is no app that allows different 3D formats to be viewed and at the same time have real-time collaboration.

My guess is that this is the year for this to finally happen. We’re seeing it first with CADFaster. SolidWorks and Dassault are LONG overdue to have a SolidWorks/eDrawings viewer on the iPhone, iPad or Android. I assume we’ll see something presented at SolidWorks World next week in San Antonio, Texas, but I’m not holding my breath.

Speaking of, CADFaster will be on-site at SolidWorks World and giving presentations of the app at Booth #136 in the Partner Pavilion. If you’re there, go check this out.
