The SolidSmack Cool Tools of Doom n’ Stuff is GO. This short video features some of the coolest finds we’ve discovered on the web this week.
This week we look at:
New Volvo Design Direction – Volvos aren’t just for soccer moms anymore. Volvo design team has released a video of their all-new Coupe; a two-seater roadster inspired by modern Scandinavian lifestyle and design. Featuring more sleek and powerful lines, the design also carries elements that recall the original Volvos from the 1960s. I’ll take two and you can even call me a soccer mom.
vrAse – The ‘vrAse’ is an upcoming Kickstarter project that aims to put your smartphone into the next dimension of immersive reality. This Oculus Rift-like virtual reality device uses your smart phone as the onboard computer and streams content to each eye independently… reducing that oh-so-horribe eye strain you get from hours of VR entertainment. Keep an eye out for it on Kickstarter!
Doctape Viewer – Been having trouble viewing non-native file types on your iOS device? .smoth extension incompatible! Doctape aims to change all that with their new app Doctape Viewer. Using their cloud-based file conversion engine, more than 80 file types will be supported for viewing on your iOS device including previously unviewable Photoshop files, Powerpoint files, and others. Check it out on iTunes for free.
All-New Flickr – Yahoo has been sharpening their branding and services effort to better compete with Google. Among their updated services is an all-new Flickr app that has taken the mobile photography crowd by surprise. The new app features a revamped interface, live camera filters, and uploading features to take advantage of their massive 1TB of free photo storage space. Check it out at Flickr.com.
Fossil Database – Smoth, we all know that you’ve been saving up your precious pennies for a pterodactyl fossil for your coffee table and you’re still $30 million too short. But have no fear! 3D printing is here! Thanks to a new online database featuring 3D scans of fossils, downloading and printing archaeological artifacts has never been easier! Check that out at 3D-Fossils.ac.uk.
‘Real’ Remote Control Car – Well, there’s certainly no shortage of new Arduino projects these days, but the Remote Control Car project just might be one of the craziest. Instructables user ‘waveGM’ guides you through the process of converting a real car into one that can be controlled from a standard RC Remote. You docmight want to go to a large empty parking lot for this one. Check it out on Instructables.com.
Phoenix’s Drone-Filmed Music Video – Drones. Some people love ’em, and some people hate ’em. One thing is for sure though: they are an awesome tool in the hands of skilled filmmakers. For the music video ‘Entertainment’ the band Phoenix performed a single take at the Palace of Versailles in France with a Drone capturing their performance and the surround area. Check it out and get inspired on Vimeo.
Apple Trade-In Program – And finally, it’s no secret: the new iPhone 5C and 5S have been announced, and a lot of us may be ready to upgrade. Apple has just announced an in-store trade-in program offering from $150-$250 for your old iPhone if you’re upgrading to a better phone. If you’re in the market for a new iPhone you may want to consider this $250 ‘freebie’.
