Whether you are a new or a pro baker, the best bakeware set is essential. It can affect the quality of your bakes, such as the presence of air pockets and the proper brownness of each bread. With this, our SolidSmack Household Appliance and Tool Research Team put at least 20 bakeware lines to a series of tests. We baked vegetables, cakes, cookies, banana bread, muffins, and meatloaves. After seeing how they performed, we rated them and their features, durability, ease of use and cleanup, and more. With all those things, here is the best bakeware set our team proudly suggests: the Chicago Metallic bakeware set!
This Chicago Metallic bakeware set aced almost all our test categories. There are areas of improvement (such as the embossed logo on the surface of the bakeware pieces that leaves marks on the bread), but its overall quality and performance will surprise you. It is not just the best bakeware set in terms of affordability, but it is also the best in durability and ease of use.
The set comes with a total of 8 cookware pieces: one 1-pound loaf pan, two 14.75” x 9.75” x 1” baking sheets, one 12-cup muffin pan, two 8” round pans, one 16.7” x 11.5” cooling rack, and one 9” x 13” cake pan. Each one boasts a carbon steel construction, and it is surprising how much they weigh. They have some heft to them which tells you how solid they are.
On the other hand, besides the beautiful silver metallic appearance, you also get a sensible nonstick feature in each bakeware. With this, the removal of bread is much easier. You can pop a cake out of the pan without trouble and with almost nothing to clean.
The entire set was also a star in our actual baking test. The loaf pan, muffin pan, round pan, and cake pans baked everything perfectly. The brownness of the bottom of the baked bread was just fine, and there were no substantial air pockets in them. The loaf pan also produced perfectly baked meatloaves. We also didn’t burn anything, and releasing everything was genuinely effortless! From the cakes to cookies, we managed to remove them from the pans without tearing them apart.
We also observed whether the pans would or would not bend inside the oven during and after the test. Fortunately, this entire set has a strong tolerance against the heat up to 450°F. Further, the pans didn’t warp the whole time we were using them, and the wire rod-reinforced rim and thick walls are huge factors for that.
On the other hand, the cleanup of the pieces is also impressive. Thanks to the nonstick surfaces of the pans, getting rid of the oil or other remaining bits of food is fast. We also didn’t notice any discoloration after using them multiple times. And although the brand advertises the set is dishwasher-safe, it is still better to hand wash everything to extend the life of the nonstick coating.
