Despite giant leaps in smartwatch technologies, the mechanical watch still manages to be a staple accessory that people continue to use every day.

Currently seeking funding on Kickstarter, Rotate takes things one step further by having users assemble their own mechanical watch from scratch. Completely devoid of batteries (because that’s what a modular watch is), the kit teaches you the ins and outs of watchmaking with simple guides, tools, and on-hand online support staff in case you lose your way:

Since all parts are included with step-by-step instructions, assembling the watch is essentially a LEGO assembly or IKEA table on steroids—including spare parts in case you break a few along the way.

In total, there are three styles of the watch to choose from, all of which measure in at 43mm in diameter and with 22m strap widths.

Folks must really love their mechanical watches because this Kickstarter campaign currently has a funding of $49,014 – more than twice its initial goal of $15,000. It still has roughly two more weeks to go, so be sure to check out the Kickstarter page for this modular watch kit before time runs out.
