Straight out of Philadelphia comes Bradley Derry, our newest SolidSmack writer. Welcome Bradley Derry *clap, clap, clap*. Yes, it seems SolidSmack is growing quite the shimmering talent pool of writers these days. Today, it’s my pleasure to introduce to you, Bradley Derry. I recall meeting Brad long ago via Twitter. We had grand ideas of creating and selling design-related, screen printed tees. We’ll eventually get around to doing that, but in the mean time, there’s writing about cool design stuff to be done. Please be so kind as to welcome Brad. Here’s a little more about the design smackin’ philly boy.
Bradley comes to us with over a decade of experience as an industrial designer many of those years leading creative teams to touchdown glory. Currently he is the Design & Product Development Manager at Innovative Office Products, a global manufacture of workspace systems and furniture accessories for the office and healthcare markets. Bradley is responsible for developing the company’s products lines and the lines of their collaborative clients like heavy weights Siemens, Hewlett Packard, Steelcase, IBM, and the NYSE. Products to market: stuff like ergonomic monitor supports, laptop stands, and hospital carts.
Bradley Derry / Industrial Designer
He is a Philadelphia University graduate who studied everything juicy including graphic design, architecture, art, and of course industrial design. An early professional start working with the Microsoft Hardware Group in Seattle helped jump start his career. To date, he has been awarded 13 international design awards, listed on 27 issued US patents, and his work has been featured in many media outlets and publications.
Don’t let that baby face fool you. He is ruthless in a corporate environment and knows how to properly fight to bring the best design solutions to market. Not only does he run the design and engineering teams at work, but he’s the one that created them bringing in talent and the equipment to do it. According to him, he is just getting started.
Other interests: His lovely wife Michelle, working on their 112 year old house, trying not to be the worst golfer in his league, and enjoying a good hike or run.
Bradley brings a wide range of interests and knowledge to the SolidSmack group. He’s going to be posting on topics like developing better design team culture, watching for trends, and overall best practices he and his team uses for development and manufacturing.
