Vic Leventhal SolidWorks 3D CAD Legend Obituary

If you use SOLIDWORKS now or used it in the past, one person you have to thank is Vic Leventhal. Vic passed away, October 3rd, 2020 at the age of 74. Vic was the COO of SOLIDWORKS from its inception in 1995 up until 2003, well after the acquisition by Dassault Systemes in 1997. That quick acquisition, and the huge growth of SOLIDWORKS, was in part due to Vic’s sales strategy, his experience as the former-CEO of a CAD reseller, and the value he had for partners. As Engineering puts it, “The reason was that he invested in developing a competent chain of resellers instead of internally taking on the…

chevrolet pickup restoration

It’s always nice to see old machines get a new lease on life, and old cars are no exception. After digging their 1950 Chevrolet pickup truck out of the junk yar, the guys at Hagerty decided to take it apart and restore it to its former glory. While they have taken the liberty to fix every aspect of the truck, we’ll just focus on our favorite part: the engine. Stovebolt 6 Rebuild After taking out the engine and suspending it, Davin starts taking it apart piece by piece to see which parts can be reused and which need changing. Once the parts he can take out by hand are removed,…

Magnum Glasses

While most of the world’s technology has changed over the course of the century, the same can’t really be said about eyewear. Glasses and sunglasses haven’t changed much in the way of their base design – that is, they’re still a lens set suspended by frames that hang on your ears and nose. One company wants to improve the typical pair of sunglasses without breaking your bank. The Magnum by Roberto Pallini doesn’t reinvent sunglass design with levitating lenses hovering in front of your eyes (though I wish they had). Rather, their conventional, yet sleek set of sunglasses make themselves super-portable, by way of a three-point total folding system, with…

Dribbles of paint-infused light pushed through the cracks of its split-iron chin. We had stabuals upon stabuals of chin pickers and beast-arm blast batteries but nothing that would breach the bronze edifice of these links. A. Shipwright – A self-described ‘amateur’, he’s anything but. Sketches and water color of monster and beast, creature and knight, and much more. Creepy Things – Hey, it’s October. This is the first in a series from illustrator Sasha Korenev, that mixes toony with a cool cel-shaded, screen print style. Ash Pond – Part 2 of the series from photographer, Tom Hegen, that shows the serene beauty of coal ash depositories from above. Patch Tat…
