Everyone needs to relax every now and then, and what better way to do it with some good old-fashioned snooker?
But while most people would go to their local bar or arcade, the creators at Tube Unique Wilderness would rather make a pool room of their own. Using nothing but wood, their hands, and some creative ingenuity, these guys turn a boring plot of land into a wild hangout.
It’s hard to believe they are able to dig such symmetrical holes in the ground with nothing except their hands and some sticks, but you soon realize they do more than just carve perfect squares and rectangles from the land.
Once the pool room reaches a certain depth, the two start digging AROUND the central space where the snooker table is supposed to be. This means rather than crafting the table someplace else and installing it; it is part of the room itself.
With a rough carving of the table in place, the creators start chipping away to craft the intricate parts of the snooker table, such as the rectangular playing field and the individual pockets where the balls are supposed to fall through. While one person is doing this, another is carving out a doorway and staircase leading from the pool room to the ground above.
To make collecting the snooker balls easier, the holes are fitted with short bamboo shoots which feed two halfpipes of bamboo. These halfpipes are fixed at an angle so the balls fall into a small nook near the players so they don’t have to go to each hole collecting the fallen balls.
As for the snooker balls themselves, they are made from small stubs of wood which are continuously rubbed against a rocky surface until they’re about as round and smooth as they can get.
Cut a number of bamboo stalks to make some pool sticks and a ball rack and you’re good to go! While the surface of the pool table and the balls won’t ever be used in professional pool playing, they more than suffice as a way to pass the time in your backyard.
