Despite the wide range of incredible technologies that are available to us today, there are still some concepts from the “future past” that haven’t yet been delivered. Among others, these include hoverboards, teleportation, instant hot pizza ovens and flying cars.
While we do have Segways, Skype, Bagel Bites and Teslas, these experiences are a far cry for some who grew up in a generation that held on to a different type of hope for the future – a future that could be identified and validated by rocket-powered cars…not minivans.
As is the case with any original “Maker”, Los Angeles-based Baron Margo took matters into his own hands and started building his own cars. The resulting masterpieces are a retro-futuristic nod to an existence where flying to the moon for a picnic on a lazy Sunday could be a reality.
“I first saw one of Margo’s rocket cars parked at a local diner, a gleaming silver torpedo wedged between unremarkable Corollas and SUVs,” says Jalopnik writer Jason Torchinsky. “Closer inspection showed the work of an incredible craftsman: the sleek aluminum surface was covered with metallic detail, bristling with rivets, lights, and a massive faux jet exhaust with a rotating outer rim.”
Torchinsky was fortunate enough to meet up with Margo recently to give one of the rocket cars a test drive:

“It doesn’t matter if you’re going only 35 MPH, because every second in one of these cars feels like you’re driving in a bubble of reality from another world, in a future that never quite happened, and everyone around you can see it as well, and invariably, they love it.”
