Hot bags of greased hardware! It’s officially two weeks and two days away from Christmas which means it’s officially time for a bakin’ hot tray of high-end hardware to be thrown into webosphere for ONE lucky person to WIN.

You may have seen the unboxing yesterday. Now, we’re giving away HP’s top of the line EliteBook 8740w Mobile Workstation, valued at US $4,899. It’s chock full of all the power you need to crank out CAD or graphical delight wherever your adventures may take you. Are you ready?

First things first. HP has provided two laptops actually. One which I’ll be using to use for everything from graphic art to large assembly 3D modeling. I’ll be writing up some reviews to give my full-throttle, honest opinion about how it performs and if it’s really worth the cash most people would have to dish out for a workstation of this caliber. The other laptop is to giveaway to a SolidSmack reader. So, let the fun begin…

As you’ve probably gathered, the 8740w is HP’s high-end mobile workstation. If you run power intensive programs on a desktop computer, this laptop should have no problem running it. Here’s what’s inside:

  • Windows® 7 Professional 64-bit
  • Intel® Core™ i7-740QM (1.73GHz, 6MB L3 Cache)
  • 8GB 1333 MHz DDR3 SDRAM
  • 500GB 7200RPM Hard Drive
  • NVIDIA Quadro 5000m dedicated 2GB DDR5
  • 2.0MP integrated webcam
  • DVD+/-RW SuperMulti with Double Layer LightScribe Drive
  • 17.0-inch diagonal LED-backlit WSXGA+ WVA anti-glare

It also has a full-size BACKLIT keyboard with numeric keypad, a touchpad and pointstick mouse, both with three-buttons. It also comes with a limited 3 year standard parts and labor warranty. It’s doesn’t have the best of the best processors offered by HP (Intel i7-940QM), but it’s certainly a powerful beast of a machine. For the full specs, here’s an overview of all the 8740w features.
