W… what the..? WTWH, of course. The media conglomerate that harnesses the combine power of Design World, WindPower Engineering, MCAD Central and a slew of other paper and web properties.

The past couple of days I’ve received multiple Twitter request in my inbox with the nicknames “wtwh_(name)”. At first I thought spam, but then I recognized some names and looked into it a little further. Here’s what I found.

It looks like this organized Social Media blitz actually took place around July 21st and after, with some already on twitter sending updates saying “just changed Twitter username to @wtwh_(name)” and other signing on for the first time.

It’s interesting. This is one of the more aggressive Engineering/3D CAD related ‘Social Media’ efforts I’ve seen. I count at the very least 16 people in the WTWH network now sending out updates.

Why put your people on Twitter?
There’s lots of reasons they may be organizing on Twitter, (I hope to hear back from them about it) but most likely it’s to build a stronger online presence. Some are posting interesting and thought provoking links. That’s a good thing. I think they see the value in connecting with their readers across different media, or you would think they do, since, ya know, they are a media company.

Here’s my list of hope for their larger presence online:

  • That they won’t be only ‘retweeting’ each others post
  • That more value will be on the conversation than the traffic building
  • That they will air their opinions
  • That some will fill in their Bio’s

By the way, if you are on Twitter, you can follow me here. I send out some random thoughts and links to things in 3D/Tech/CAD/Design that I find interesting.
