It’s always fun to watch someone repair something that looks beyond the point of fixing. It takes vision, creativity, and some serious craftsmanship. An this is what’s on display at The Small Workshop (TSW) YouTube channel. Man, what they can do is just crazy! The channel features homemade tools and workshop projects specializing in wood and metal, with some of the biggest draws being their restoration videos. They focus on taking really old, severely rusted tools and bringing them back to life. This antique rusty knife restoration video is no exception. After finding a rusty knife near his grandfather’s hundred-year-old house, TSW decided to take it home and dive into…

In my drummer days I could lay down a beat! I couldn’t wait until the next time I could sit in front of a drum set. In between times, I’d take to air drumming in my bedroom imagining banging out a perfect beat. Like most things, good drum skills take consistent practice. Sadly, for a drummer that’s hard to do because it takes a lot of money to buy a full drum set and the right place to keep them. Also, banging out a tune in your bedroom at 11 pm likely would test the patience of your neighbors and in short order, the complaints would surely roll in! But…

Have you ever wondered, “Man, wouldn’t it be cool if I could see through my computer screen?” No? Then you clearly (heh) aren’t thinking like Evan and Katelyn, the husband and wife maker duo. As YouTube creators, they’re cranking out content to show the world that making stuff isn’t as impossible and frustrating as we think it is. In one of their most recent episodes, they had their work cut out for themselves. They decided to tear apart an LCD TV with an aim to convert the LCD into a transparent display. Success for them (and potential us) would mean loads of fun! Let’s have a look at what they…

Ah, the shower – the last bastion of human privacy. In it, relief is attained, life-changing decisions are made, and some of the best acoustics can be found. Anyone can be whoever they want to be in the shower, even a Grammy-award winning singer. So why not up the ante and add some tunes during your private time? Shower Power by Ampere is the first speaker built especially for shower time. Installing one to the side of your showerhead takes the water flowing through the system and uses it to rotate an internal impeller inside the Shower Power speaker. This impeller is connected to a mini-generator which provides power to…

I normally don’t use laptop sleeves because, apart from making me look like a snobby, over-age yuppie, they don’t do much else. But that may change with this particular sleeve. At first glance, the Silviano looks as hoity-toity as laptop sleeves get. It’s made from genuine vegan leather sourced from India, which is naturally tanned before it’s dyed. The sleeve is colored using an Italian technique known as Tamponata, which is a hand finishing technique where pressure is applied to the different layers to give the leather its worn appearance. Looking beyond its leathery exterior, you’ll find a sleeve filled to the brim with design features you never knew you…

Adobe announced the coming availability of a new feature in their Capture app: Scantastic. The Capture app, which is available for iOS and Android platforms, has been around for a while and has been used in the Adobe ecosystem for capturing vector graphics. One of the frequently used functions in graphics arts is to convert a pixel-based image into vectors that can be more easily manipulated. That’s the original purpose of the Capture app. But now it seems they are about to add additional 3D functionality to the Capture app. Here’s a video of how it will work: This will enable users of Adobe’s Creative Cloud to not only capture…
