Designers of all strips and colours are producing a lot of interesting plastic-extruded work lately, especially where sound and 3D printing intersect. Here are a few things that have popped up recently worth a mention and a listen.
Luxury mobile phones are most often super-glam on the outside, and filled with outdated crap tech on the inside, but Swiss watchmaker Tag Heuer has a new class of high-end, Andriod mobile phone and it’s sure to squeeze your eyes right out of their sockets. We take a look at the new Tag Heuer “Racer” phone, the visuals that are sending waves through the design world and talk with Vincent Parot, CG Artist at I-Réel, about the process of creating the film.
Wondering what the future looks like? It’s all glass, lots and lots of glass. At least according to Corning, the glass manufacturer responsible for the ‘gorilla glass’ on your iPhone. In this interesting new video put out by the company you’ll see a montage of how glass is embedded (read: controlling) every waking moment of our lives.

Fantastic technology has been cooking up on the other side of the pond. I’m talking specifically about the SUMPOD 3D printer. The desktop printer is designed, built and sold by Richard Sum of Sutton-in-Ashfield, UK. Another addition to the family of RepRap derived 3D printers, the SUMPOD features quite a few additions not found among its brethren. For instance, it features an attachment for a Dremel allowing light CNC routing and… get this, PCB making. One more step closer to self-replicating every part for another 3D printer. Amazing.
CAD Simulation just got a dose of direct modeling simplicity. Kubotek has launched KeyCreator Analysis which provides a new multiphysics solution for users of KeyCreator Direct Modeling application. They’re slating it as ‘CAD Analysis for Designers and Analysts’ and have the full analysis workflow embedded within the KeyCreator interface.
