While glimpses into the design process and fabrication methods have become more available than ever thanks to cheaper video cameras (e.g. smartphones), free online video hosting and overall public interest, it’s still not too common when a video spans the entire manufacturing process from raw material to finished product.

In ‘BEAM / The Making Of’, industrial designer Surya Graf presents the journey of taking a flat piece of sheet metal through to his powder coated and finalized furniture designs.

Shot during the production of his Beam furniture series, the short film pulls the curtain back and allows the viewer an inside glimpse into the processes and people that went into creating his product. From the initial laser cuts to the bending and finishing, this is among one of the better process-oriented videos we’ve seen in awhile.
