Remember when you use to make things? Potholders, paintings, LEGO creatures, messes? You need to get back to that, and  The 100 Day Project may just be the kick in the ass you need. It’s the brain child of Elle Luna & The Great Discontent, a quarterly print pub and online magazine. The project kicks off on April 6, 2015, but don’t worry, you can start it anytime you like, from day one, or jumping in on day 99. The whole ideas is to get you to start making.

More Make in the Monitor

If you’re like us here at SolidSmack, you don’t have the time you would like to get to all the ideas you have or make all the awesome that streams through your mind whilst a model is rebuilding or image is rendering. Sometimes we need a little push or cleverly devised Instagram competition to turn the guilt of inaction into a dizzying amount of doing.

What is the 100 Day Project? “It’s a celebration of process that encourages everyone to participate in 100 days of making. The great surrender is the process; showing up day after day is the goal. For the 100-Day Project, it’s not about fetishizing finished products—it’s about the process.

It’s about the process. Darn tootin’ it is.

So, how do you join in? There are six things you need to do; Six things to both inspire you and encourage you to make, make, make. There are no limits or criteria for what you make, you simply need to choose an action that you’ll perform each day to get you to your goal–Draw, Sculpt, Sketch, Film, Photograph, Model… anything besides email–making more email doesn’t count.

  1. Sign up for #The100DayProject newsletter for important announcements prior to and throughout the project.
  2. Follow Elle Luna and The Great Discontent on Instagram for project announcements, updates, and highlights.
  3. Choose your action, which you will perform every day for 100 days starting on Monday, April 6th, and ending on Tuesday, July 14, 2015.
  4. Create an Instagram account if you don’t already have one (this is where you’ll share your photos).
  5. Select a unique hashtag for your project so all your instances of 100 can be viewed in one place. Include the hashtag with each of your posts (i.e. #100Daysof____ ).
  6. Announce your project on Instagram. Download an image and post it on Instagram, along with your project’s unique hashtag, to announce your project before April 6th.

You can see all the current entries at #the100dayproject. What a great idea–We should have thought of it. Maybe, we’ll do a 200 days of making after this one, or have a one hour make bash every week. Either way, we have one thing to tell you…
