The SolidSmack Cool Tools of Doom n’ Stuff is GO. This short video features some of the coolest finds we’ve discovered on the web this week.
This week we look at:
Wooden Panton Chair – Smoth, prepare yourself for chainsaw art-jealousy. I’m already jealous. The Wooden Panton by Matthias Brandmaier is a replica of the iconic Verner Panton design that was crafted by chainsaw from a single beech tree trunk. With it’s rustic wood texture it is the perfect blend between artisanal craft and modern design. Check it out and see other awesome wood projects at MatthiasBrandmaier.de.
Papila Designer Food – Smoth, what would food look like if it was treated as any other design material? Ummm…a Verner Panton chair made of Wonder Bread? Close! Papila Designer Food is a curated collection of food reimagined in more functional forms. Featuring everything from the Dipit cookie with an integrated milk-dipping grip, to Bread Britte….and a dinner roll designed to use as a plate scouring pad to mop up what didn’t get picked up by your fork. Prepare to think of common food in an entirely different way and check out the whole collection at Papila.es
Anchor – Are you avoiding your coworker’s Facebook friend-requests because of the embarrassing pictures of your unsuccessful hot dog eating competition attempt? It was all innocent fun! Well look no further friends, Anchor is the new social media hub specifically for office environments. Coworkers can be grouped into departments and subcategories for sharing and chatting to your heart’s desire. Get it for free for both iOS and Android.
Google Earth – Google Earth has been available on mobile devices for awhile now, but a recent update now adds Google Streetview to your devices. No longer will you have to navigate as a blinking blue dot—-get it for free for iOS and Android.
Ergonomic Mouse Project – Have you been looking for the perfect project to introduce your kids or friends to Industrial Design? Look no further than this Ergonomic Mouse Project from Jude Pullen. Waxed Canvas Tangle Bag – The Waxed Canvas Tangle Bag by Instructables user ‘iiswhoiam’ makes use of the space under the top tube of you bicycle. Yes this minimal bag design offers a great place to keep a flat repair kit, credit cards, or a couple of water balloons. If you want to lose the backpack for those weekend rides, this is the perfect project to get started in softgood design. Check it out at Instructables.com
Boom! – BOOM! is the Museum of Food and Drink’s explosive first exhibit. Yes, this new food and drink-centered museum in NYC is seeking funding on Kickstarter for a puffing gun exhibit that explosively puffs food items. I want one!! Find out what makes rice Krispie and what gives Cap’n his Crunch by supporting the campaign. Check it out on Kickstarter.
3D Printed Duck Foot – And finally, our feel good story of the week. Buttercup the Duck hatched at a Texas high school recently with his left foot turned backwards. Through 3D scanning Buttercup’s sister Minnie’s left foot, a prosthetic was 3D printed in silicone and now enables Buttercup to waddle just like his buddies. Break out the tissues Smoth.
