What was Jon Hirschtick even doing at SolidWorks? He may have ben asking himself the same question. After starting the company in 1993, serving as CEO and then as a member on the executive board for the majority of his time with SolidWorks, Jon has turned in his “immediate resignation.” GraphicSpeak broke the news, citing an email sent out to SolidWorks employees.

In the email, Hirschtick said he looks forward to “spending my time learning, researching and pushing the envelope on new technological advancements. I will do this best in a fresh new independent environment.”

Those words are great to hear from the man who shook up the 3D modeling scene so many years ago doing just that. To me and many others, Jon was everything good about SolidWorks. He’ll be missed. With Bertrand Sicot taking over as CEO earlier this year and then this happening, it makes you wonder what direction Dassault Systemes is headed with SolidWorks. But with his presentations on the future of CAD and passion for technological innovation, I’m sure we’ll see incredible things to come from Jon as he heads into his new, independent environment. Rock it like you mean it, Jon, rock it like you mean it.
