Humidifiers are very beneficial in adding moisture to the air. It is seen as a piece of essential equipment by those who often experience colds, dry sinuses, bloody noses, and cracked lips due to a lack of air moisture. This is why having one at home is a must, especially during the seasons when the air starts getting dry.
Before getting a humidifier, however, it is important to know that there are two basic types to consider: the warm and the cold mist humidifier. As their names imply, they release opposite temperatures of mist. In the market, you will encounter a lot of cold mist models as it is much safer around kids and pets. It is also perfect for those who are always dealing with dry air in warm climate regions. One example is the LEVOIT Classic 300S.
Then there’s the warm mist humidifier that can slightly elevate the temperature in the space while adding moisture to the air. With this, it is suggested for places which suffer from the cold climate. Honeywell HWM705B is one great warm mist humidifier you can have for this. Nonetheless, there are also those that can release both warm and cold mist. These are versatile models that can fit all kinds of environments. The Levoit LV600HH is one of those few humidifiers with effective dual mist technology that can serve all kinds of needs.
On the other hand, while getting the right kind of humidifier for your needs is important, it is also crucial to check the other details of the unit. This includes the space coverage of the humidifier, the tank capacity, and even the controls. Though bells and whistles are not a requirement, having them can give you convenience and improve your user experience. For instance, the Classic 300S can be controlled through an app or third-party voice control assistant while the Everlasting Comfort unit allows integration of essential oil.
To know more about these features, our SolidSmack Household Appliance and Tool Research Team personally tested the leading humidifiers on Amazon. After seeing their best highlights and comparing them, we constructed our personal unbiased insights about each product. With all of these things, we hope to aid you in your journey in finding the right humidifier. Also, to have a peek at their best deals, we also included their latest links on Amazon which might interest you.
1. LEVOIT Classic 300S
unit control panel, VeSync, Google Assistant, and Amazon Alexa
For the ultimate cold mist humidifier, this is the best recommendation we could give. It ticks all the boxes: huge tank capacity of 6 liters that can last up to 60 hours of use, 505 square feet space coverage, and most of all, plenty of controls that allow you to tailor each of its actions according to your preferences.
Indeed, you can do all possible settings and commands to Classic 300S. Its front features a big display screen and 4 touch-sensitive controls. But it isn’t the biggest surprise here: it is its Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity!
Classic 300S can be controlled using the VeSync app of the brand. Here, you have more detailed control over everything from the setting Auto and Sleep modes, the timer, activation of nightlight, power, and even schedule! You can use the app to set everything from the days you want it to work to the exact hours you want it to stop. You can also set it to your preferred humidity level and it will keep it that way, thanks to its built-in sensors! Further, it also supports third-party voice assistants such as Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. That being said, you can control it without lifting a finger!
It is also one relaxing unit due to its genius and thoughtful designs. This includes the aroma box which allows you to add essential oil and medicine scents in the mist, giving you a spa-like ambiance at home. Also, it has a night light which lets it double as a lamp. Nonetheless, compared to others with limited light controls, the light of the Classic 300S can be adjusted from 50 to 100%, or you can simply turn it off! Neat!
Further, we really praise its well-though body design which you will notice when you refill the tank. Removing and carrying the tank is easy due to its side handles. Unlike other designs, this will prevent accidental falls. Also, we found the cleanup and refilling of the tank extremely easy. Not only is it a top-fill type, but it also opens wide so that you can easily put your hands inside and access the internal tank when you clean it! Even better, it has tiny slits on the edges which make it possible for you to completely drain every drop of water when you are cleaning it. Genius!
2. Levoit LV600HH
Warm and Cold
unit control panel and remote control
Unlike other humidifiers that are only capable of emitting cold mist, Levoit LV600HH comes with an option for warm mist. Thanks to its heating elements, it can produce warm moisture up to 500 ml per hour for a 753 sq. ft. space. It also has an aroma box, giving you the freedom to add a soft scent to your mist! That being said, it really is a versatile hybrid ultrasonic humidifier model that can suit all needs.
When we had our chance to finally check it personally, we were also astounded by how huge it is in terms of capacity. Nonetheless, its build is so compact that placing it anywhere is possible. With its white body and a transparent tank, on the other hand, it can match your home’s interior. It also doesn’t come with conventional unattractive buttons. Instead, it boasts touch-sensitive controls, making it appear more sleek and classy. It also comes with a remote control that makes things more convenient for you. It has a great range, too! In our test, it reached at least 25 feet!
As for the controls, you have a good number of controls in the front of the unit. This includes the Power, Mist Level, Warm, Humidity, Timer, and an Auto option. This is where its magic starts. When we tested each on its function, everything seemed accurate! We personally love its Auto mode which employs a built-in sensor that adjusts and maintains the humidity at the right levels.
You also have the option to put it in a timer for up to 12 hours, so you can basically set and just forget it. For your utmost comfort, you can also turn its LCD light off at night. Just press and hold the Auto button for 3 seconds and you have a trusty humidifier working even in the dark!
Moreover, it can last up to 60 hours pumping mist, thanks to its 60 L capacity. Once the tank empties, it will automatically turn off for safety! The best part about it? It has a memory function under this auto-shutoff function. This means you don’t need to put all your preferred settings all over again!
3. Everlasting Comfort Cool Mist
Just like the Pure Enrichment MistAire, this Everlasting humidifier is a filterless model that offers great convenience for users. However, compared to the former, it boasts higher water capacity and wide area coverage. It comes with a 6-liter tank capacity that can cover at least 500 sq. ft. room. With this, it can keep pumping for more than 50 hours before there is a need to refill it (depending on the mist output). Even better, it has a LED light that will notify you in case the tank gets empty. This can also double as a night light which you can turn on and off!
We also love to see that it also has a 360-degree nozzle that distributes the mist effectively in a wide direction. You can also adjust it so the mist can turn away the moisture from walls and other sensitive objects like electronics.
On the other hand, thanks to its knob, controlling it is much easier. Compared to other models employing buttons, turning its dial to your preferred setting is much easier… and faster! At the low-mist setting, it can produce 120 ml of moisture per hour and at the maximum setting, it can release up to 270 ml of moisture.
Another thing that really caught our attention when we inspected it was the small tray near its base. It is so small that some might not notice it but it’s actually something that makes it different among others: a dedicated essential oil tray. That being said, you have the option to mix a faint scent of oil in your mist. The best part about it is that with just a few drops of oil, the scent can last for a day or two! With this, it is very ideal for those who often use oil in treating their headache, anxiety, and stress.
4. Pure Enrichment MistAire
unit toggle button
Pure Enrichment MistAire is the top-selling humidifier model on Amazon and it was one of the reasons why we decided to try it ourselves. However, upon getting hold of the unit we realized that it is actually simple. No huge bells and whistles such as the smart ability of the LEVOIT Classic 300S or the extra-large capacity of the Everlasting unit. So, what makes it a charming choice among countless folks? Its straightforward use.
Indeed, MistAire doesn’t have the biggest easter egg to offer out there. Yet, in terms of reliability and ease of use, it is the top choice. It has a 1.5-liter tank capacity that can deliver 150 ml of moisture per hour in 250 sq. ft. of space. It only employs two speed settings (High and Low), so there isn’t really any complexity in using it. Nonetheless, be reminded that it comes with four settings which involve the light setup. With this, you have a total of four options: low mist with light, low mist with no light, high mist with light, and high mist without light. Toggling to get into these settings is very simple as there is only one button in front of the unit that is touch-sensitive. When we tried it in a dark area, we found the blue light to be a bit bright. This can be an issue for those who just prefer soft lighting at night. Then again, however, you always have the option to turn off the light.
On the other hand, while its 250 sq. ft. capacity can be a bit limited, it can be a very capable personal humidifier unit in bedrooms. Further, it employs a mist nozzle that allows it to release moisture in one particular direction. With this, you can easily turn it away from sensitive appliances and furniture. It can also last for more than 16 hours and even has safety features that make it extremely child-friendly. Besides producing just cold mist, it will automatically shut off when the system senses that the tank is low or when the tank is removed. Most of all, it is extremely quiet and can be used in any bedroom without any problems.
5. Honeywell HWM705B
Honeywell HWM705B is the warm mist counterpart of the Amazon chart-topping Pure Enrichment MistAire. And if you are living in places with cold climates most of the year, this is for you.
It is a serious warm moisture humidifier that can effectively improve and increase the temperature in a medium-sized room. And compared to other products, it has a more obvious heating element that can boil water as soon as you activate the unit.
When we compared it to others, what we first noticed was how intuitive and user-friendly it is as the MistAire. No tons of buttons and no bunch of controls. But that doesn’t make it anything less desirable than others, as it is built for straightforward use. No complexities. You can simply turn the dial and choose between the two levels of mist you need and it’ll start the work. Simple.
It is also specifically built for the purpose of relieving the breathing of users. With this, we really appreciate that Honeywell added a designated oil cup that will impress those who often mix warm mist with liquid medicines. Also, it has a 1-gallon tank capacity that can last up to 24 hours of continuous use. Once the tank runs low on water, the light will indicate the need to refill it.
The only challenge we see about it (besides the fact that it is boiling and can harm pets and kids) however is the fact that minerals easily build up on its heating element. However, this is usual in all warm mist humidifiers, especially if you are not using distilled water. That being said, if you are really interested in buying one, it is better to know that it entails frequent cleanup of the unit.
Best Humidifiers - Buyer's Guide
As said, there are two basic types of humidifiers and it is important to get the right one for your needs. Apparently, you might want to avoid getting warm mist, especially if your home is already suffering from high temperatures. With this, a cold mist is a better choice. However, there are also models that can offer both kinds of mist just like the Levoit LV600HH.
It is always great to have a humidifier that has simple settings. However, it is best to have the one that offers you more control over the unit. One great feature that will be very handy is the Auto mode. With this, you can set a target humidity level and you can prevent over-humidifying an area.
Getting a humidifier that is too small for a large room will take hours before you feel its effect. This is why it is always a must to check the ideal area coverage of the humidifier. Also, do check the tank capacity of the unit. The bigger it is, the better. This means you don’t have to refill the tank multiple times a day.
The build of the humidifier is also an essential point to consider when picking one. Besides the compact size that will allow you to put it anywhere, you might also want to know whether its tank opening is large enough to help you easily fill and clean it.
On the other hand, it is best to get a model with the latest features that can make its use much easier. Some of these include the remote and app controls, Auto mode, oil cabinet, night lamp, and more.
