“Hey Hunny! Bring your belly over here and have a look at this!” I’ve seen disturbingly decorated decoupages of bosom and baby bump hanging on walls, bronze cast sculptures of the unborn, but this new keepsake puts all those other reminders of pregnancy to shame. A Japanese tech company called Fasotec is providing a new way to view life inside the womb, capturing it with highly detailed scans and printing it out to sit on your shelf and mystify/shock your friends or hang around your neck.
3D Printed Baby
Fastotec is a software reseller from Japan. They design, development and sell of CAD/CAM/CAE software as well as produce molds and product prototypes. The service began July 30th to demonstrate their production capabilities and supplement their service. And, they’ve already had quite a few clients raving about the product.
“They said it felt great to see how their babies looked before birth, and to be able to actually hold the inside of their own body.”
The model is produced using a technique called ‘Bio-texture‘ modeling which processes the image data. An Objet Eden260V is use to print the forms with the white resin baby surrounded by the clear resin mama. The prints are 3.5x 2.4×1.5 inches (90x60x40 millimeters) and run approximately US $1,250. Thank to Cory who wants to hold the inside of his own body as well, but doesn’t since it would be messy and weird.
