While some people stuff anything and everything into their wallet, others prefer the minimalist money-clip approach with that ever-so-modern feel of ‘less is more’. Those who fall into the latter camp will want to feast their eyes on the KKMC MICRO, a truly minimalist wallet manufactured from solid, aircraft-grade aluminum.
Unlike other wallets, the Micro won’t wear out as easily over time and takes a considerable amount of force to bend–around 551 pounds! The wallet was designed to be the same length and width as credit cards, which are secured using an incredibly strong, flexible thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) strap affixed to the wallet by a pair of screw attached clips. On top of that is super stylish–the Micro looks similar in shape to the backs of some smartphones (minus the camera hole), thanks to the PVD plating that makes the wallet scratch resistant.
The opposite side of the Micro features a convenient groove to hold a limited amount of spare change, which could be considered a negative but then again, it’s minimalist in design and wasn’t meant to hold everything. Alternatively, you can hold your paper money in the wallet’s groove or simply secure it under the PVD band for those few places that still require cold hard cash.
Through their Kickstarter campaign, KKMC has successfully surpassed a target goal of $8,900 in a matter of a few hours, climbing to over $60,000 with a solid month left.
Kit Kaye, one of the co-founding designers, released a statement to SolidSmack concerning their progress, “We are proud to announce that after only 30 hours we were fully funded, putting us up with some of the fastest funded projects on Kickstarter! With this heart-stopping acceptance from the Kickstarter community, we are really keen to increase our exposure elsewhere to see how far we can push the Micro.”
SolidWorks was used in the design and KeyShot for the rendering shots. They’ve gone through the prototyping process completely, testing it to the limits and have suppliers lined up with production ready to start.
Stretch goals for colored straps and new finishes have been unlocked with more on the way as funding increases. Packaging is being introduced to backers next with a production date starting in March and shipping planned for May/June 2016. With that in mind, those looking to get their hands have options starting at $37, with quantity options for up to 100 MICRO wallets. Time to retire the ol’ chain wallet?
