Hold the Cheetos and fruit snacks! The average child throws away an estimated 55 lbs of food a year from school lunches…and we’re pretty sure that the majority of that is damaged food (smashed sandwiches?) or food that isn’t being served in its optimum state (who wants cold tomato soup?). Needless to say, fresh food is being wasted.

Aiming to solve this often-overlooked problem space, the product design team over at OmieLife consisting of founder Nancy Yen, designer Robin Bigio and engineer Lucas Menanix have created a unique solution that not only keeps food protected similar to a Japanese-style bento lunch box, but can also keep both hot AND cold foods stored and insulated.

The OmieBox is launching on Kickstarter July 7th and we checked in with the team to get a peek behind the design and development of what is sure to change the school lunch game.
