To pick up crumbs, hair, dirt, and sand, you need a vacuum which will make things faster. A full-sized one is the best option you have but getting it out of the storage room, untangling its cord, and generally setting it up can be demanding. Sometimes, all you need is a compact, handheld vacuum unit that you can place on your nightstand.
With such a size, there is no need to repetitively hide it. You can pick it up and use it in an instant without dealing with cords. That is the beauty of cordless models that are now dominating the market. Even better, handheld vacuums nowadays are getting more and more aesthetic improvements that you won’t think of them as vacuums. Some examples are the sleek designs of Shark WV201 and BISSELL AeroSlim. They have slim bodies but this somehow translates to shorter battery life. So, if you want a more powerful tool, we suggest the cordless BLACK+DECKER Flex BDH2020FL which can give you a straight 18-minute consistent suction.
On the other hand, while wireless models are truly lovely, some of us would prefer a corded unit. In this case, THISWORX TWC-01 car vacuum is a good option, especially if you are dealing with a great mess in your vehicle.

Best Handheld Vacuums Comparison & Rating
Handheld Vacuums | Features |
4. Shark WV201 | |
1. BLACK+DECKER Flex BDH2020FL

It might be a bit bigger and a little more different than others, but it can also do better than them. It has a 4-foot flexible hose that allows you to have more freedom in reaching corners and tight spaces, unlike other units. It is accompanied by a 2-in-1 nozzle with a flip-up brush. It delivers a terrific suction performance that it sucked up everything we put in front of the nozzle. Nonetheless, the real highlight of BLACK+DECKER Flex is the pet hair remover that is very effective in collecting every strand of hair on any surface. We were also amazed that besides hard surfaces, it worked on fabrics! Its 24 AW suction power exceeded what we were expecting.
Furthermore, its battery capacity is one of the best. The 20 V lithium vacuum can work longer compared to others. We were told to charge it for a total of 12 hours for maximum performance but it was all worth it as it gave us a pleasant performance that lasted for about 18 minutes non-stop! Even better, it provided nothing but consistent suction levels even at the last minute. Truly satisfying. Also, charging it isn’t a problem in any way, thanks to its charging station base which also doubles as accessory storage. You simply place the unit on top of the base and let it charge right after you use it. No fuss at all and convenient!
2. THISWORX TWC-01

Using regular vacuums again and again to clean cars can be exhausting, especially if you have to deal with their huge body and an extension cord to power them. Well, we got a better option for you.
THISWORX TWC-01 is a car vacuum that is extremely small and lightweight at 2.4 pounds. It comes in a compact bag with three attachments. The package might look underwhelming but it can give you the suction power you need and most of all, the convenience.
It has a 106 W motor that can be powered using the 12 V aux outlet of your car. It has a 16-foot long cord and with the engine of the car turned on, its power can reach a decent suction level that can pick dirt and specs in the car. The flathead, extension tube, and brush nozzle are very helpful in directing and enhancing its ability to pick things. When we tried it, it managed to handle dust to sand. The flathead helped us to get into hard-to-reach areas such as the tight spaces of the seats, while the extension tube made it possible for us to clean the under seats and crevices. On the other hand, the brush nozzle did a great job of picking the stubborn hair in the carpet with ease. During the entire test, we have to clean the washable HEPA filter almost twice. This can be tiring if you have to deal with a huge mess in your car but for casual cleaning purposes, TWC-01 can be an effective lifesaver.
3. BISSELL AeroSlim

Just like other small handheld vacuums, AeroSlim isn’t a complete replacement for a full-size unit. We can say, nonetheless, that it is a little monster in its own way.
The cordless AeroSlim employs a 7.2 V lithium-ion battery, allowing it to last for at least 12 minutes. By trying it in a car, on the other hand, it lasted 17 minutes with brief periods of rest. It takes a total of 3 hours to charge fully. These things probably make its ability a bit limiting and we were a bit hesitant when we personally saw it, but when we tried it - boy - it sucked every bit of sand, dust, cornflake, hair, and every dry loose particle on the ground! It was a bit loud the entire time we were testing it. Really loud. But the motor is very effective in its job. With just a single pass, it cleared the surface and left no particle at all. The 2-in-1 crevice tool and dusting brush is a nice add-on. The brush can be pulled up and down easily but even without this single multipurpose attachment, its mouth is a killer. Even with a low-battery status, its suction performance won’t falter.
Its performance, however, isn’t the only thing to cherish about it. Even its aesthetics are divine. It has one of the best handheld vacuum bodies in the market. Even better, it is compact! Even when you charge it on its charging base, it doesn’t consume too much space on your counter. On the other hand, disposing of the dirt it has collected is very simple. The collection bin that employs the washable and reusable dual-level filtration system easily detaches with just a twist.
4. Shark WV201

Shark WV201 doesn’t look like a handheld vacuum in any way. With its charging base, it looks like a telephone on the counter. It is really as good as the AeroSlim in terms of aesthetics. Yet, it can also be as powerful as the said model.
It is a wireless unit that has a 10.8 V high-speed, brushless motor. It takes 2.5 hours to fully charge from empty and can last up to 10 minutes of use. Indeed, it has a more limited capacity but within such a short period of time, it can produce unrivaled suction power. When we tested it, it picked up hair, dust, and sand without struggle. With just a single pass, it cleared the surface of everything. The fun part about it was that it even lifted big pieces of things like cereals and leaves. With this, we were able to clean up a 5’ x 2’6” table within a minute. The attachments are also very helpful in making things much faster. We personally love the upholstery tool which makes the suction more focused.
There is a caveat, however. Despite its flawless performance in picking up dirt, we felt restricted in terms of its dust bin. It is smaller compared to other models that you have to empty more often. Thankfully, doing it is completely effortless. The Power button sits next to the release button. The release mechanism is very effective in throwing the content, thanks to its flicking action. We also love its transparent walls, allowing you to see when it’s time to open it.
5. BLACK+DECKER Dustbuster HHVI315JO42

BLACK+DECKER HHVI315JO42 offers no fancy features but it really is capable of picking up everything with pure ease. We love how its form is as simple as the THISWORX TWC-01. It has a powerful snout that can cater to two attachments: a brush and a crevice tool. With these attachments, it can tackle any length of loose hair strands lying on carpets and fabrics. On the other hand, even without the attachments, the mouth of the unit itself has great suction coverage, so even the specs near its mouth can be sucked in.
We tried its suction power and it didn’t fail, not even a bit. We love how consistent its performance is just like others on the list. From the first few minutes its motor started up to the last drop of its juice, we experienced nothing but unwavering suction.
Its dustbowl has a capacity of 31.8 ounces and is translucent, allowing users to see whether you already need to empty it or not. We also love how easy it is to clean it up. Storage is also excellent! It comes with a wall mount, so it doesn’t have to clutter your drawer or your counter. Just hand it on the wall and plug the charger and you can pick it up whenever you need it.
Best Handheld Vacuums - Buyer's Guide
Most handheld vacuums now are in cordless forms, so it is important to know how long they can last in a single charge. You certainly won’t be using a unit to clean your entire house as it is not a direct replacement for a full-sized one. However, a model that can last for a longer period of time is better as it means you don’t have to charge it more often.
Corded units are also great as they will allow you to work without limits. On the other side of the coin, cordless units would always have to be charged. Most of them take 2 or more hours to charge fully. And while we are used to the conventional chargers, we would suggest getting the one with a charging dock or station. Not only this would make your tool more organized but it also means you can place it on charging mode anytime and take it whenever you need it to work.
All handheld units are not meant to pick up wet stuff. Yet, they can be effective in terms of sucking loose particles. In our reviews above, we mentioned how each of them worked during our test. With this, the only job left to you is to note whether they fit your needs and expectations or not.
Handheld vacuums can work with or without attachments. Yet, attachments can help improve their performance, especially in certain tasks. For instance, the BLACK+DECKER Flex BDH2020FL comes with a pet hair remover tool that is specifically designed to get strands of hair sticking on carpets and other fabrics.
