Al Dean Says New RED SCARLET/EPIC Digital Cameras ROCK. We Agree.

red-hd-camera-solidworksDon’t take it from us, just listen to Al Dean who confirms that he is 99% sure that the new RED Digital Cinema cameras Scarlet and EPIC are modeled in SolidWorks and likely rendered in the blistery goodness of HyperShot.

The RED SCARLET and EPIC are the first of their kind build-it-from-scratch-with-endless-amounts-of-possibilities Digital Still Motion Camera (DSMC). The configurations are overwhelming. The 3K resolution at 120FPS SCARLET ‘Brain‘ starting at $2,500 makes your directorial debut dreams seem all the more possible.

Here’s all the juicy renderings. You can find out more on the RED website. Now SolidSmack just needs to get a hold of a RED EPIC set-up to show you what it’s all about.

…. I'm going to have to start adding alledgely to my tweets duder 0- but yes, I love how this product looks – I want it, before I even know exactly what it does…

man, if I get a reason to post something about cool design, that is (or might be) designed in SolidWorks, I'm on IT. : ) – such a cool idea – building a custom DV camera.

These guys made a big stir about 2 years ago when they first announced the Red One. Everyone thought it was impossible to make a 4k camera at that price. Now I see that they have something going all the way up to 28k. Incredible. These guys are really cool. I'd love to see Danny Boyle get one and use it to make a *real* sequel to 28 Days Later.

That Camera look insane!!!

Check out the Specs… the resolution on a rig like that is just INSANE too.

I remember the RED ONE being announced and really thought about wanting to film a zombie film. Danny does needs to step-up and bring back the dead with a better sequel than that other guy did, or something new that blows the brain pan off both… just as long as it has zombies running at you full bore.. OPEN THE DOOR!!!!!

I love these Renderings, what sort of HDRI do you use as environment in Hypershot? Is it some Dosch Studio Effects? Thanks.

Josh M April 27, 2010 at 12:49 pm

Not sure what HDRI they used Sebastian. It looks like a blank environment with a floor, or could be done with a 'lightbox' model put in with the camera.
