That crazy orange SolidWorks Real logo is at it again and I don’t think I’ll be able to sleep till I find some answers.
If you get the SolidWorks Express Newsletter, it probably popped up in your inbox yesterday around 9:58 a.m. when your at the peak of efficiency. They have a nice photo of some windmills and something about the environment. But what interested me is that little orange real logo.
Who’s in charge of putting that thing there? How many locations do they try? why orange? Yes, these are the things that matter.

SolidSmack is a very small behemoth of an online community about 3D CAD, technology, design, robots, and ninjas… Ok, maybe not ninjas so much, but those guys are COOL so there just might be something about some dang ninjas.

C’mon, you’re not fooling us, photoshop dude. We all know that the SW marketing people were tragically born without the “sense of humor” gene They are incapable of putting together an image like that. Plus, aren’t they female, and they’d probably consider this vulgar and sexist, not to mention belittling of those who seek silicone enhancement of their self-esteem. “Real” udders are tres gauche.
Personally, I had to mop up a bit of ice tea I sprayed on the keyboard and monitor through my nose when I saw it.

I am female and I didn’t find it any of those things you are talking about… It’s just a cow… OK, the location of the logo is kind of cute, but better on a cow than on a bull… Hmmm… If it had been a bull and the logo had been placed more or less “there”, would the male population consider it sexist and vulgar? Would a few guys feel that it’s an attack to their self esteem? That they are being, well, “belittled”? “Less than”, even?
OK, I’m still operating on high levels of caffeine…

As the former Director of Marketing Operations at SolidWorks, now you can see why I left the company. It is this careless miss-treatment of our bovine citizens and blatant disregard for decent logo standards that cause me to have a mental breakdown and have to leave the company. What’s next? A black and white cow colored box? A “real” logo brand for cows on the SolidWorks ranch in Concord, MA? Only serving milk at SolidWorks World? When does it stop???

Very interesting, my company works with SolidWorks parent – developer of CATIA V5. Believe me, it’s also frustrating working with a company that owns 2 MCAD brands that compete directly against each other.
All joking aside though, SolidWorks is a great 3D solid modeling kernal – I don’t care what anyone says. I’ve spent years doing competitive analysis of high end PLM. My experience has shown that even though SW is a great product desing tool for the mass market, eventually you “hit a wall” and need a process-centric design tool like CATIA. Believe me, if Boeing can develop planes with it – you can make what ever it is you need to as well.
Yep sir, Catia is pretty good stuff. I think if what your designing demands some higher end surfacing its good to look at and compare. V6 stuff is going to be interesting for sure.

It’s always good to compare, especially with the price tags of this stuff. I’m not sure what you have on your radar Josh, you seem pretty plugged in to what’s out there. Catia emerged from the aerospace industry where there was a need to represent complex mathmatical surfaces. On the V6 note, there are two things – Version 6 which won’t be released for several years and a new V6 designation for an all online product set. For all you SolidWorks users out there, there is a really cool new brand from Dassalut called 3DVIA that, among other things, easily facilitates the creation of technical documentation. Google it and find the website if that is part of your job, there are free downloads to play with (if you can get it to work!) I’m going to end this blog before I start sounding like a corporate marketing goon!

I'm not sure if this is offensive to women, but as a cattle farmer, I am deeply offended. I think I'll call PETA.
I cringe at the day when PETA will start opposing the embarrassment/slaughter of digital/virtual animals – I'm almost certain they do. ahy.
Could someone please tell me what is so funny here? I see the cow and the orange real box but then again at my level of expertise I only see it as what it is which is a cow and an orange box. Of course too, I just found this post if that can tell you anything about me.
