The 3D Alphabet? Yep, and Why 3D Might Be More Confusing Than 2D

by Josh on May 4, 2009 · View Comments

3D alphabetHow many times do you look at somethign and say, “yeah, that would be MUCH COOLER in 3D.” Ya know, stuff like a book, a movie, or set of schematics for a miniature fusion reactor.

Yet, with all of the possibilities, there’s just something way to simple about the glyphs representing the English alphabet and Ji Lee is here to take care of that mess with a special conversion of the boring, old 2D alphabet into a spectacularly revolved 3D work of art.

Is the alphabet now more universal? or did 3D just get more confusing?

Hard to read, hard to write, still pretty cool
Like we actually write letter with a pencil anymore. This 3D alphabet would be completely digital form of communication, but even better (as the later images show) it phenomenal for creating interesting works of are, especially mechanical structures and buildings. 3D is pretty much already a ‘universal’ language, right? But, any language you’re not familiar with looks confusing. So, could a 3-dimensional approach to languages eventually be a reality. If so, I’m hoping it’s a bit more colorful. Take a look.

  • I'm usually not one to "appreciate art", but this is really cool. I guess different "dialects" could be same concept, just different fonts.

    Those last two are incredible.

Some people have way too much time on their hands!

    LOL!
  • This is a difficult thing to put to words. The concept and pictures are intriguing and cool, yet they make my skull pound trying to associate the letter to the shape. I like the artwork created by using the letters also.
