In most cases, sitting on a flat wood surface for hours at a time isn’t what most people would consider comfortable, but with an innovative new wood block cushioning system, they may be singing to a different tune.

The Block System, which was masterminded by the mad geniuses at Los Angeles-based Sitskie Furniture Co, was designed to give users a soft and comfortable sitting experience while keeping all of the benefits of a solid surface – durability, cleanliness and the aesthetic qualities of a solid material.

To date, Sitskie has integrated the Block System into both a chair and a bench design – both of which the designers scrutinized over for months:

“During my time in the furniture business, I’ve learned that people have a love/hate relationship with upholstered furniture,” explains Adam Friedman, a designer behind The Block System. “Along with the softness of an upholstered piece comes the natural concerns about damage, staining, dust, life of the fabric and longevity of the style. The inability to truly get any upholstered product clean without removing covers and going to great lengths is an inescapable reality and a bitter pill to swallow. Through years of trial and error here is our unique solution backed by a U.S. patent.”

Every chair and bench is made from solid domestic hardwood that is both responsibly harvested and FSC Certified. Since Sitskie uses local independent artisans and businesses to craft their products, the comfort of sitting in a Block Chair or a Block Bench can come in more ways than one.
