When I imagine the type of illumination you would shoot from your fist to bake a ham and a side of biscuits, the choice seems pretty clear to me – INFINITE TRIANGULAR LIGHT. We don’t need any of that cubical, or bubble-shaped light shooting from your power knuckles.

Unfortunately, we’re not quite there with the light fist tech, so we’ll have to leave it to industrious designers like Ignacio Garcia to inspire us. Yes, leave it to Nacho Libre to permanently change who I imagine and completely endear to me, anyone named Ignacio. “Listen to Ignacio!”

“So anyways, let’s get down to the nitty-gritty.” Ignacio (*snicker*) created a relatively simple model for a spectacular light design that shoots patterned rays of light from each side of the triangular enclosure. He calls it the Delta Desk Lamp and his modeling approach will make complete sense once you read his explanation:

The Delta Desk Lamp is an artistic representation of equilateral triangles arranged in a concentric pattern. By scaling and rotating triangles in a concentric manner, each side of the pyramid creates the illusion of inward depth. An internal light softly diffused by a translucent cover also adds to the intrigue of this piece, and the light reflected on the internal surfaces adds even more depth and dimension.”

Ahhh. It all makes sense now, Ignacio – thanks for the detail! I can only imagine rotating and scaling each feature manually, though. Hmmm – would be great to control, perhaps, with a script? “You are crasssssy!”

Ignacio has shared the .stl, .step, and original SOLIDWORKS .sldprt file. Aside from the electrical bits and hardware, the lamp can be printed as one piece with an SLA printer (and supports) recommended for retaining the detail to diffuse the light more evenly. Below, you can see the settings he used to print the piece using a Formlabs Form 2 3D printer.

Yeah, you could extrude this up in a matter of seconds, but you can also just go ahead and snag the model over at GrabCAD. (Bonus! Check out Emiliano Valencia’s desk lamp for another GREAT 3D printable lighting option here!)
