It looks like a pre-programmed bunch of flippy things making your phone look cooler than those plain jane iPhones, that’s what it looks like.
The HTC Touch Diamond is the next amazing 3D interface stuffed into a tiny 2.8 inch display to make you strap that drool-cup on again. Sure its tiny, but you can make all your 2D friends that much more removed from reality.
All you cool European folk can run out and get one now, the rest of us will have to wait till the last part of 2008 to gaze into the Windows Mobile® 6.1′in, Integrated GPS’in, 4 GB Internal Storin’, 3.2 MP shootin’ touch phone. There’s a cool video if ya click on the pic.

If you were standing on the corner of the CAD block yesterday, you had obscure CAD terminology splashed all over your new pants. Everyoneandtheirstep-uncle’smom was waxing intellectual about the ‘newest-in-new, right-up-in-your-face- and-hit-you’ CAD tech announce by Siemens PLM called (prepare for large phrase that makes you mildly uninterested)… ready… “Synchronous Technology.”

If you’re involved in plastic design you may have heard of Protomold. If not, they’re a Rapid Injection Molding outfit. You can send them your 3D models and have a prototype created super fast for as little as $1795.
If you just completely glaze over when somebody mentions plastic design or want a interesting purple cube sitting on your desk, they have a free sample they’ll send you. It shows you good and bad practices and what to consider when creating a RIM part. Really cool.

I’d like to hear it from the man himself, but according to DesignNews Jon Hirschtick, the nicest guy and founder of SolidWorks, was one of the original MIT blackjack team members depicted in the upcoming film, 21.
The movie, based on the book of the real events, stars Kevin Spacey who leads a group of MIT student to huge winnings in Vegas.
The part I doubt they embellish is when one of the guys uses about $1 million of that coin to help startup your favorite CAD company, SolidWorks. Pretty cool if true, and the side of the story you always wish you could hear more about. Game of Blackjack Jon?
Here’s the trailer for the movie, it comes to a theater near you March 28th.

Ya know, I’ve heard about people drawing 3D models in the air, but this is the first time I’ve seen it. To me it seems like a bunch of ‘keyboard-like’ commands in the air but, wow ya know, pretty close to what you might imagine huh?

A very new and very large report on 3D Technology came out this month that “takes a realistic view of 3D display technology and its future in the professional and consumer electronics sectors.”
Being familiar with developing a product in 3D, you may like to know 3D display technology is spreading and could affect how you use a computer or even how you watch TV.
You can’t view the entire report and it cost $5900 USD (3745 Euro) to gain insight into this developing technology, but some of the interesting highlights mentioned are:
6 major display technologies
Compatible technology
3D CAD Image Generation
3D applications and markets
Human Factors of 3D displays
Roadmaps for technology
A list of 650+ companies, etc. involved in 3D display technology
3D Printing
Cool Factor
You don’t need to read a 400 page report to know this tech is pretty cool.
Usually a report like this is to prove that (more) money should be put into research and development. Who know who did the study, but I have no doubt that these types of displays will be so common in the near future that they won’t even be referred to as 3D displays, just displays. And I doubt they’ll look like what were use to.

Really now, that wall you currently have built between you and the outside world with cereal boxes and plastic spoons is lookin’ a bit dated. It’s time you had a look at Bloxes.
Bloxes is a unique and completely cardboard way of creating or recreating that bubble of nonconformity you live in. Heck, you could even make a sculpture for you boss or a playhouse for your kids. You are only limited by your imagination and the 9.5 square inches each one takes up.
These are like the sustainable DIY’ers dream, plus they’re just plain fun looking. Putting these things together could become obsessive really quickly, but what’s amazing is how it takes readily accessible material, adds some folds and turns functional design.

If you do a lot of searching for photos or just like better ways to search for things I think you’ll like these two plugins from Cooliris.
PicLens PicLens is an incredibly slick and easy way to search and view images. You can search Google, Yahoo, Flickr, PhotoBucket, DiviantArt and some others. What would be even nicer is if you could link it to your Accounts at these locations.
Cooliris Previews Previews is a quick way to browse without having to open up each page. Just hover over the link and you can see a fully-functional pop-up of the site. If you’re viewing images you can use this to see a slideshow of the photos.
