Some of you may be going to SolidWorks World 2008. One of the sessions is called Stump the Chump, hosted by Ben over at SolidMentor, where a panel of SolidWorks Bloggers, Matt Lombard, Rob Rodriguez, Ricky Jordan, Lou Gallo, Jeff Mirlsola, Lenny Kikstra, Ben and I, will be fielding questions from the audience. Why do the section and detail views in my drawings sometimes just show the hatch patterns without any lines?

If you use mass properties, sometimes the units will show up as metric, even though I use IPS. It’s annoying because I don’t know it unitl I scroll down and see that it’s in metric. Then I have to go to options and select ‘use document setting’ It switches back, but I have to scroll down again. Arg.

Why did they tabulate everything (animations, motion study, sheets) but they don't have different tabs for different photoworks configurations? More of a Suggestion than a question, although I would like to know if anyone has thought of this and why the idea hasn't made it through

Hey John, what specifically are you refering to. Dimensioning in drawings? sketches? Large assemblies can really bog down dimensioning and annotating drawing views, especially if the drawing has a lot of pages, section views, section of sections and details.

It just seems that any dimension placed on a sketch or a drawing takes to long to process. The size of the file has no effect, it can be a simple extruded rectangle or parts in a small assy. Single page acts the same, I thought maybe some variable or option needs to be addressed.

It could be related to a couple things. It could be the amount of processing power your computer has ( I recommend at least 2GB RAM) or it could be the amount of memory you have available on your computer, which could also be affected by a heavily fragmented drive. For the later, I recommend removing any programs or files not being used, keeping large video (movie, divx, mp4s) off the main partition and defragmenting on a regular basis. I would use PerfectDisk (the windows defrag is crap) I've seen your issue happen from all of these.
