You could mess around with sticks and Playdoh trying to mock up an idea for a design contest, but if you’re like me and end up eating throwing the Playdoh and burning the sticks, there’s a better solution.
SolidWorks sponsorship. Not only will you get to put a neato SolidWorks decal on your entry, SolidWorks will usually offer a seat for use. Oh, and it’s not just for education. Company teams can get in on the action too. Here’s some tips on picking up sponsorship from SolidWorks.
Sponsor me… or I’ll just die
For educators, students and others interested in designing an edgier solutions within the limiting factors that come with the typical design competition, take the reigns and get SolidWorks to sponsor your entry. Here’s some info you’ll need:
- Event, team and project info – Know the details of your event or competition. Name (Mini Baja, SAE, etc.) place, and date. Specifics are nice, but concentrate on the purpose and goals of the team’s entry and the tech behind the design.
- Create a website – This can provide others with the best information. You can use something like Weebly.com to create a nice site really quick. Put the details, team photos and if your with a company work with the web person to work up a information page. Having all the above info and some pics together will make it a lot easier.
- Don’t worry about support – If your school or the event doesn’t endorse SolidWorks, or 3D for that matter, don’t worry, go ahead and request sponsorship yourself, direct from SolidWorks. You may be the one that gets 3D into your school or company. I’ve seen one person make this happen before, so go for it.
- Request sponsorship – The only thing left to do is fill in the request and let them know the details above.
Again, if you think SolidWorks just sponsors education initiatives, you would be soooooo wrong. They also sponsor company teams. One goo example, the MilllenWorks Toyota FJ in the Baja 1000.
Have you been sponsored by SolidWorks? What’s your experience?

SolidSmack is a very small behemoth of an online community about 3D CAD, technology, design, robots, and ninjas… Ok, maybe not ninjas so much, but those guys are COOL so there just might be something about some dang ninjas.

They gave me a €2500 laptop after being fourth in a contest, okey not really sponsering and i would be first
if I had the laptop before the end of the contest
But 2500 euro was more then my year income at the moment I won it. I could use a sponsor of a full version because the student or contest version is not enough for me!
