solidworks-world-top-ten How many times do you get to tell somebody what they need to do better during the day without being unduly ignored?

Time’s are a’changin folks, and SolidWorks has whipped up a socially acceptable way to get your insight and look real cool while they take all you can dish out.

Each year at SolidWorks World, the Top 10 Enhancement Request submitted by users are showcased. How that happens is now even more transparent.

Now there’s SolidWorks Brainstorm (via the customer portal). A quick, easy way to submit, vote and comment on improvements for SolidWorks.

Sweet Enhancement Bliss
SolidWorks has needed something like this… for YEARS. A community-based,Digg-like approach to gathering enhancement requests. This is one step in the right direction to show that SolidWorks is listening to the user.

It’s not just enhancements though. It’s ideas. An idea that explodes in your mind while you’re working in SolidWorks, that SolidWorks developers see and apply their knowledge to. That’s powerful.

But are they really listening?
Some I speak to, don’t feel they need to take the time to submit enhancement… they don’t get paid to do that, yadda, yadda, but it’s one way you can affect the software development and make your 3D modeling life easier. Yes, I actually believe they listen to these, because it would actually be dumb if they didn’t.

Improvements for suggesting Improvements?

Ability to vote without having to go to specific enhancement – more Digg-like with Popular topics on the side. You can get to something kind of like this if you select More on the main screen, but putting this out in front would be excellent.
A widget for websites – Just one more way to promote the enhancement requests.
An area that shows suggestions already implemented

Good news I guess is that Solidworks does pay attention to user submitted "bugs" or enhancements. Often times these do get buried but more than one person must see it, as with any bug. Now, if 20 or more people complain about a certain issue, then it gets some serious scrutiny.

It's good to have the transparency for sure. The enhancement request process wasn't the easiest, but this puts the issues already submitted right out in front.
