Super Hot Falen Concept Car Designed in SolidWorks

by Josh on June 5, 2008 · View Comments

We’ve seen some really sweet cars partially designed in SolidWorks, but the new Falen concept from Dowdeswell and Hardie has the unique pleasure of being designed completely in SolidWorks.

The design team, nestled between the glens and highlands of Perthshire, Scotland, plans to debut The Falen at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2009. This full carbonfibre monocoque beast will house a 800-hp, V-10 Judd GV5 S2 engine and rip the air at… yet to be determined speeds.

Check out the site for an animation of how the ‘cockpit’ opens and a shot of the fine-looking interior.

Who’d have thought Auchterarder had any more that a good fish and chip shop and pub on the way back from Glenshee :-)

Interesting. A production run of just 4 as well? Why?

Hey Josh-

As a modeling excercise, using SolidWorks, it’s brilliant.

As a practical vehicle? Not. No A pillars, huge, blinding C pillars, way too low to the ground, short overhangs with no crush zones. And really, a gas sucking V8? Looks like no room for even a briefcase.

Designs with no practical use are just plain silly.

And designs that look just a bit too similar to the new Ferraris.

I’d hate to see the mpg this would get..but the design looks pretty sweet.. I wonder how long it took them to design this..

Is it sad that I recognize that rendering environment?

Great design…Really sophisticated. Can’t wait to see the prototype.

The car looks very slick! It almost looks like a combination of a tank, with a fast sporty car. The car looks very solid all around!

By far the most impressive thing about this car is that it's got a real race engine designed by a company that builds nothing but race engines.

I'd love to see John Judd back in F1.

It doesn't have a real race engine… it doesn't HAVE anything. It's complete vapourware. Completely designed in solidworks, and that's where it'll stay.
