Most of you only have two fists. One for slamming out 3D geometry in SolidWorks and the other for punching it with pretty sauce using modo. However, if you’re just starting to build up those layers of rendering calluses, you may be looking for some soothing aloe to take the pain away from the workflow rawness.

Paul McCrorey is here to help. He bring years of experience importing SolidWorks model into modo and has churned out four videos that shows you the particulars you want to know about when sweetening up those scenes.

In the videos, Paul covers the SolidWorks to modo workflow, explains it with tips and at the same time gets you use to the terminology. Good stuff and just the right mix to get your render fists pumpin’.

There’s no doubt. Computing is changing. But, most of us still sit at our desks punchin’ keys with one hand while staying caffeinated with the other. So, what would happen if you could keep the caffeine and ditch the desk?

The thing is, a lot of us need that workstation wallop to crank huge amounts of 3D data, analysis and renderings. I imagine that’s changing as well and we will start to see more options which, at the very least, make that box warming your feet, quite obsolete. For us users though, we would have to see the value in switching.

So, if an existing CAD company (or a new one) created lightweight faster apps that allow you to extend the use of your data via laptop, netbook, or mobile, would you switch?

Would you Switch to a CAD Systems with more Mobile Options?

You remember when you were a kid… or maybe yesterday, when you would plow your head into a clump of clay, wall, or mama’s mashed potatoes just to see the imprint? I do. Good times. I’ve grown up since then, so when there isn’t a pile of pliable material around, I sit in a chair and push pixels around on a screen using a digital sculpting tool. oh yeaah.

The latest is Sculptris. Pure, unadulterated sculpting power developed by Tomas Pettersson, himself, over a 6 month period. It’s bare-bones simple, but has all the tools you’ll need to get familiar with sculpting. On top of that… it’s free.

If you’ve birthed a wee one, or have been involved in the process of choosing an appropriate container to cart them around in, you might be familiar with Phil & Ted’s.

They make the buggies that make your head turn when you’re trudging down the running path like an angry marsupial mama with three children grappled to you. Phil & Ted’s obviously have the design process down and they make it all happen using SolidWorks and modo. Their latest development is, get ready, the world’s fastest jogger, conspicuously named the Sub4. Hit it.

Very, very slick of the robot sympathizers over the past few decades. Distract the humans with fear of robot attacks, while they slowly integrate them into the working class and family life.

Yep, you’ll be surprised when you come home and your baby has been replaced by a multi-appendage, potato-peeling chubbling that ‘sleeps’ through the night and has coffee made for you in the morning, but you’ll be even more surprised when you find your office chair has been replaced by a circuit board that looks like you and does your job 24 hours a day.

In the wide, wide, wide world of 3D training videos, there’s a lack of unfamiliar voices speaking dubbed over video of a guy picking around in your favorite CAD program. Not to worry. A small band of tech support pros on the West coast is putting that to an end.

GoEngineer is a SolidWorks reseller bangin’ out the lessons and some fancy videos on the new GoEngineer YouTube channel. They keep updating it constantly with tips and training on a lot of topics that keep your mind spinnin’ when starting to use SolidWorks.

We won’t complain that they’re not making us pay for it. We will complain if they stop making the videos though. From sketching circular patterns to creating an administrative image, they will school you in the ways. Go check’em out.

We wrapped the entrance in meat and fear, but that didn’t stop them, no. We heard the foot-steps… tiny… peculiar… footsteps, and when we turned, our minds we’re frozen by… these links.

Bradley W Schenck – The retro-future illustration of Mr. Schenck is a little bit Mucha, a little bit robot and a whole lot of awesome.
Grizzly Bear Ready Able – The official music video, or should we say the official way to make a freaky music video.
You Don’t Know Jack – YES. Love this game. Now you can school your friends with your knowledge of random facts.
Cats vs. Dogs – Really, the only thing we need to know is that dogs are cooler, cats smell. This explains.
Pursuit of Happiness – if there’s one thing more annoying that rollerbladers, it’s artsy rollerbladers. Thanks AnnieLZ!
Explore Mars – And this is a great example of a useful educational app. Explore Mars on your iPad in 3D.
Shoply – A place to start your own shop, online, for free. Slick interface and super easy to set it up. Go for it.

Well, Dassault Systems may be arrogant, but they’ve certainly got the cash. Yesterday, they completed the acquisition of enterprise search company Exalead for a cool €135 million (US $162 million).

You probably haven’t heard of them, but Exalead has been called the ‘French Google’ and are best know for their CloudView platform which can be integrated anywhere to search for anything. Yes, even your skull or perhaps a muffin, but their focus is primarily on enterprise infrastructure, web search markets and helping companies develop search-based applications (SBAs) for web-based information access. We asked a couple questions to the Dassault (DS) team involved in the process. Here’s their explanation and their plans to bring it into 3D product development.

Remember the Audi R8 SolidWorks Car tutorial and remember the video that preceded it showing the entire modeling process in 5 minutes? Well, we’re about to taunt your senses again, frustrate you into a panic and build the anticipation for yet another amazing tutorial.

Dan Lavoie is at it again. This time… with a Lamborghini Gallardo tutorial. Mmmm, spicy. He’s finished the model and is currently preparing the final video tutorial, but that won’t keep him from showing us what’s to come. Yes, he’s mashed the entire 20 hour process into another 5 minute eye feast.

Here’s the video and a few screenshots of the 200 mph intensity you’re about to get yourself into.

I love the product development industry drama. It’s so RAW beneath it’s cordial, feature-rich exterior. Hard to imagine what would happen if you put all the execs together in a room full of garlic water balloons and large sticks… but not really.

In a user conference room away from each other, it’s a little tamer. But oh, the words. They are plentiful. In a playful, little, jabby type of way Jim Heppelmann, next CEO of PTC, made a few comments about their competition. It received some laughs and added just the right dose of drama.
