I prefer the free ones, even though they have fewer features sometimes. I think at least having a free version open up more imaginative ways of creating revenue for the company. no doubt, if the product is good enough people will pay, activecollab, seems to have done well, they were once "the free version of Basecamp" but since have such a large user base they were able to expand into commercial versions. anyway, thanks for the comment. They also have categories for Calendar, Tasks, and Groupware along with a feed for the site. It hasn't been updated since August which makes me wonder, but it's a good start.
