This week we stopped by the Dassault Systèmes headquarters outside of Boston, MA to talk with SolidWorks CEO Bertrand Sicot about what we can expect from SolidWorks 2014 and other SolidWorks products as we approach the new year. We’ll talk with Bertrand about everything from what’s new in SolidWorks 2014 to what we can expect from the yet-to-be-released Mechanical Conceptual software.

We’ll be discussing:

  • What can we expect from SolidWorks in 2014?
  • What are the current priorities of SolidWorks as a whole?
  • When can we expect a Mechanical Conceptual release?
  • How are you planning on putting SolidWorks in the hands of the new generation of young Makers?

“putting SolidWorks in the hands of the new generation”…To that, I say create a “fun page” on your website for youngsters (10 & up) to be able to create, assemble and put into motion some canned asseblies. Or, spin off a “kid friendly” version that will capture their interest in your product. I am working on teaching my 9 year old son how to use SolidWorks, but there are a lot of buttons to explain and it is a long process. If you had a simplied version of SW, he would likely be able to teach himself much of the software when I am not there to guide him.
This could also open up the doors for more kids to become interested in the design, engineering and manufacturing world, which is what we desperately need in the US.
