My brother, who is trying to shed the hooks of life on dry ground for a life at sea, shared this site with me. It’s a giant repository for details of old boat plans that includes everything from row boats to ski boats and even a few sail boats. Ah, to escape to the islands, or end up stranded with a boat I created from an old boat plan. Sweet.
Some, but very few, of them have CAD drawings, like the cute, but burly, MiniMost. Some of the plans are really detailed and can even help you learn about what the parts of a boat are called, like mooring bits, bow sprit and keel rabber. So grab some, print them out and tuck them under your arm like you’ve been building boats for ages!

SolidSmack is a very small behemoth of an online community about 3D CAD, technology, design, robots, and ninjas… Ok, maybe not ninjas so much, but those guys are COOL so there just might be something about some dang ninjas.

I found some wicked cool plans for a two seater car on boingboing a while back and started modelling them up in SolidWorks – they were from 60s engineering magazine.. I was going to build the CAR of the FUTURE dude.. then I realized the drawings were kind of sketchy and abandoned the whole project..

man, that would’ve been cool Al. A boat seems more feasible to me… some wood scraps, a hammer and a bit’o seafarin’ love. of course I’d have to grown the chin wiska’s like you…and I’m telling you, I am one scraggly looking pirate.
