Do you remember the Audi R8 Surfacing video? The preview of how to model it in SolidWorks? If the fact that it wasn’t actually available then was enough to taunt you into joy-filled rage, you can wipe those frustrated tears. It’s here.
Daniel Lavoie has put the entire process together. 14 hours and 20 minutes of his SolidWorks surfacing knowledge. He’s got a little deal worked up for ya, and here on SolidSmack we have a link to it and 45 screen shots of what you’ll see after you get the DVD in your hand.
Here’s… the Deal
Yes, Daniel is selling the Tutorial. For the first week, till Tuesday, October 13th, he’s discounting it 51%… that’s more than 50%, which is slightly more than half off. Where do you get it? You can hit the sell page to be totally convince at the SolidWorks Audi R8 tutorial website.
Disclaimer: I’ve not done this tutorial yet or reviewed it. I’m really anxious to hear what some of you proficient in SolidWorks surfacing think of this, so if you’re a surfacing genius and would like to provide your thoughts or do a review of it, please contact me.
Disclosure: Yes, that link up there is an affiliate link. I’ll get 20% of the take if you click it and buy the tutorial. Thanks. But, if you don’t like clicking affiliate links or the idea of giving 20% to SolidSmack, you can go straight to the tutorial sell page.
But wait… there’s more
Screenshots. Images of the car being modeled in SolidWorks. 45 images to be exact. Click on any to enlarge and cycle through them all.

Very cool model, makes me curious how he modeled it. But where did he put the sell page???
Rob, i think the page was down for a little bit. It should be back up now. I'll be interested to know what you think, if you decide to buy it. see ya.
Ok it's there again! I ordered it, will let you know.
Hi Rob,
Did you ever got the chance to test the tutorial?
Thanks.
Not yet, I ordered it yesterday and will be shipped next week.
Thanks Rob. Can't wait to see what ya think.
Hi Rob,
Any updates?
I've watched through the first four videos and I have to say I'm not impressed. This tutorial is a straight forward click here, click here, add this dimension, etc. There's no explanation of why you're doing things. And I'm wondering where Daniel got the dimensions he uses.
I really don't think this is worth the money, but your milage may vary. I'm keeping the tutorial DVD, but I'm also going to pick up Matt Lombard's surfacing book.
Hi Dave,
I was very clear on the website:
“Here's what this tutorial is NOT.
This is not a tutorial where I explain the how and why of each tools, features and functions. I could have done it that way and go in great length and explaining everything. The tutorial would have been easily five times longer… and also five times the price.
This is not a tutorial for people who want to learn how to get surfaces ready for molding and manufacturing. I modeled this car without any considerations of industry manufacturing standards.”
I thought it was very clear that I wasn't explaining everything.
By the way, Matt Lombard's book is great. You should definitely get it.
Regards
Dan.
P.S. I have been honest all the way, if you feel that I lied to you in any way, shape or form about the tutorial or you are just not satisfied with the product I'll gladly give you a refund, all you need to do is to send me the product back and an email stating that you are not satisfied.
I bought the DVD and ran through it; I certainly appreciate it for giving me an oppourtunity to learn how to do surfaces and shapes efficiently in SW- sometimes just seeing how someone else goes about a task can save endless hours of trial and frustration. Thanks Dan.
My only gripe is that it was not disclosed the tutorial is in a propietary format requiring a special player to be installed and activated online- with a single license. While I understand the delima piracy causes media providers to secure their work; I as a consumer am concerned for the risks and limitations this means for my investment. It would be nice to know that if in event of a hard drive crash my ability to install use this product is not jeapardized.
I understand that a DRM protection can be irritating for customers…
But I add licenses to everyone who's emailing me (I do it usually in less than 1 hour).
If your disk crash or you want to install it on a new computer, just send me a quick email.
I'm waiting for your email Laz!
Regards,
Dan
I installed the tutorial on my most reliable system, so I have no need for a subsequent installation at this time. Thank you. That's first class service for a first class product. Pretty fair deal; overall. I played the whole disk through and had no issues. I would recomend this tutorial to anyone who is not a Solidworks expert already and wishes to learn some modeling techniques. And you are correct on Matt Lombards books- great source for learning Solidworks. Thanks again
i guess the DVD's worth a buy based on your feedback. i am into surfacing right now in SW, and was looking for this one.
let us know what you think from your experience already with surfacing when you get it. Thanks!
Hi Dan, how can I buy this tutorial?I'm staying in Singapore, how can you deliver it? how long for the delivery time?
I just finished the car today; I spent the past month, a few hours a day most days to complete. I really learned a lot. It was good that there was some variations to approach modeling some features. I'll be cracking open Matt Lombards books and get some new insight to some of the surfacing procedures that was demonstrated in the tutorial. I got my money's worth. Thanx Dan.
Sorry for the late reply!
