I’d tell you all to stand up simultaneously and start slapping each other while screaming and going into a frenzied panic, but that would be putting it mildly. What you should do is slap each other, scream, and start pulling the cords violently from the wall socket and flicking the light switches off and on… There, now we’re in proper state of hysteria. Why?
Well, it just so happens that there are issues with the 64-bit versions of SolidWorks 2009 SP5, 2010 SP1 or 2010 SP2 which have subsequently been pulled from the Customer download area… seems a SolidWorks software surgeon left a pair of forceps in the body cavity before closing up Mr. SolidWorks 64bit. Here’s more on the issue.

*Update!* The hotfix for the PhotoWorks Issue is now available. More info on the fix here.

From Greg Jankowski of SolidWorks:
This does not include PhotoView 360, this is a PhotoWorks only issue.
This has nothing to do with an installation issue.
We will release information on the hotfix in short order.
This has nothing to do with an installation issue and this is a separate issue.
The hotfix will be available in short order. There will be a SolidWorks 2010 SP2.1 available, most likely, within the next couple of weeks, if not earlier. As soon as we have more information to share, we will let everyone know.
You can read more on the issue at this forum post. It has some customer experiences you NEED to read, especially if you use Photoworks. This issue arises from PhotoWorks specifically, but comes on the heels of other issues I’ve seen mentioned with graphics cards and Enterprise PDM.
Have your say…
If you think SolidWorks should change something, add something, do away with service packs or test them more, have your say for the Top Ten Suggestions. It’s based on your, the users, feedback and then presented at SolidWorks World. If you use SolidWorks, go give your suggestion or vote for other good ideas.

SolidSmack is a very small behemoth of an online community about 3D CAD, technology, design, robots, and ninjas… Ok, maybe not ninjas so much, but those guys are COOL so there just might be something about some dang ninjas.

This is getting pretty scary. Solidworks was the upcoming robust “design” software package we all waited for. Items like CADDS5, Pro-Engineer etc became too top heavy with non critical enhancements and lost a lot of users as most of us just want to design parts period. I personally did not renew my subscription to my premium seat of Solidworks due to the changes taking place. Specifically the idea that making it a photo realistic rendering package integrated is basically a wrong path. I have a 4 year old DELL that became obsolete in 2010 because of graphics card support being just turned off. Should I use WIndows 7, 64 bit, and 2010. Who knows but sitting in front of me as a small business owner is a huge cost for a workstation that still is not fully defined or tested. Enhancements that are not useful to a deign engineer. Solidworks need to reduce the overhead fluff, design a robust release wrapped around a solid workstation specification engineers can rely on.
Timely catch… just upgraded to x64 and picking back up a SW project (after a lovely few months on Pro|e)
