Well hello and good morning. Nice to see ya. How are the kids? Oh, that box graphic over to the left? That’s the fresh new look of SolidWorks 2009. A new version or something. A lot of hub bub going on about it these days.
I think if you click on it, yeah, right there, it goes to the “SolidWorks 2009 launch site” that is full of information and dangerous, highspeed driving while watching videos of what’s the newest in new for the next version of SolidWorks.
My favorite part is not all the information, but the exploding chopsaw in the Behind the scenes section. Check out the new features and even leave a comment telling what ya think. See ya.

SolidSmack is a very small behemoth of an online community about 3D CAD, technology, design, robots, and ninjas… Ok, maybe not ninjas so much, but those guys are COOL so there just might be something about some dang ninjas.

Thanks for the update, now how can i save these SWFs? i can extract them from the browser cache but is there a better way?

Sorry if this has been beaten to death… Anyone know why solidworks insists on a yearly release? It seems to me the new versions are always buggier than the 200X SPX.X verison its replacing and with no backwards compatibility, picking when to upgrade always seems like a gamble. This go around a customer drove us to upgrade to 2008 a month after release, earlier than we had wanted. 2008 seems OK, aside from randomly closing and a “failed to save document” error. It seems to me releasing bi yearly would allow for a lot more testing and a much more robust product no one is reluctant to upgrade to.
I guess that would make yearly service contracts harder to sell *rolleyes*
if you're trying to get it into format to view online, some video sites will upload swfs.
yeah Chris, pretty much beaten to death, but I know what you're saying. I think things happen much quicker when you're the one administrating CAD programs and user. It's also a hassle for autocad upgrades and moving to new version of acrobat products. It's not always because of the programs but customers, accounting and having to check compatibility between other programs.<br><br>I wish technology would slow down a bit sometimes, but then I'm really excited to see the new stuff coming out and the direction it's moving in. For 2009, it is, from my experience more stable than other releases. If you're on 2008, switching to 2009 will be much easier and I think you'll like the new stuff. I do and I didn't move our guys to 2008 for various reasons.
Josh,<br>sorry i didn't get your solution. i want to download the videos overnight because i have a really slow connection.it's a real pain to stay in front of the pc for an hour just to watch a 5 min video. and if i want to watch the video once again, another one hour!
Impresive dog and pony show, but I wonder how they generated the exploding chop saw? Did they spend three weeks setting up an intense exploded view and animate it? Or did they just flip mate alignment on a random component?

Its easy to get complacent I guess, 2008 hasn't been that bad to me really. I've lost a few hours of work over the last few months due to random shutdowns of the program, but its not the end of the world generally.
Don't tell anyone, but i kinda like the user interface changes. My only complaint there is the lack of ability to move the command manager around and from the looks of one of those videos on the launch site that's been addressed in 2k9.
I love the new features and the improvements every year, so its kind of a mixed blessing, as most things are i guess. I'll take a yearly upgrade that has a few bugs over next to no change in over a decade; Autocad i'm looking in your direction.
