I received an email recently that had the above graphic in the footer. The time is drawing neigh, my friends. The wolves are howling in the distance and travel mugs are being imprinted with the SolidWorks Logo…be warned… ok, here’s some links you’ll want to keep an eye on.
Community Survey
In addition, SolidWorks is also conducting a community survey. It takes about ten minutes to go through, but you’ll get a look at what SolidWorks may be considering for the community aspect and you could have an affect on what it becomes. Documentation? Social Network? Models? Blogs? or Free Stuff? Let your opinion be heard.

I find it funny and ironic that the SolidWorks World 2008 Media Site launched yesterday has the large SWW08 logo that includes the word “Share.”
SolidWorks didn’t want Matt Lombard to ’share’ the presentations with everyone. But thanks to the frisky community and some understanding at SolidWorks, all the presentations and media are up for anyone that steps into the SolidWorks Customer Portal.
Oh, and Kudos to the people who put the flashy flash book together. I imagine thats could be part of why it took longer to put up.
For those that can’t get in, here’s a download to everything. (just kidding) - Here’s the SWW08 Photos in Flickr that are linked from the SWW08 site and a screen shot of what it looks like.

If you’ve taken a quick excursion to SolidWorks.com you’ll notice some new slick graphics (love the sliding effect), more quicklinks and a smooth modern gray replacing the lovely orange hue.
One of the content blocks down below the featured content has a question that asks “What can SolidWorks do for you?”
This got me thinking. What can they do? Why do you want go to SolidWorks.com? Is it to get to the forums or see videos? Your company (in most cases) buys the software, so why does it matter to you? Are there things that are missing you wish they had?

It’s kind of an unprecedented move, but SolidWorks, the 3D corporation that has called Concord, Massachusetts home for the past 15 years, has finished the final paperwork to relocate most of it’s home office to Venice, Italy.
“[SolidWorks] felt it was time to be closer to lots of water and when some building became available in Venice, the timing couldn’t have been better… We feel the user-base will receive better support and have more options when planning a Mediterranean Cruise.”Yourk Razy, Swx PR
I’ve heard from some very reliable sources that this was done to shield the development team from outside influences as SolidWorks2009 draws neigh.
There also seems to be plans for a large purchase of Yamaha Jetskis and an early registration being filled for the North Eastern Italia Jetski Invitational on July 21st.

Have your circuit boards been feeling a little disconnected as of late? That resistor is just not fitting in right with the others? There’s hope.
SolidWorks has acquired Gold Partner Priware, the makers of CircuitWorks and is including it with SolidWorks Office Premium. Additionally, it will not be available any longer as a stand alone product.
In fact, if you have SolidWorks Office Premium you can go download CircuitWorks right now. It’s even available in XP and Vista - 32 bit and Vista - 64 bit flavors. but watch it, this is a 90-day trial and will require you to move to SP4.0 when available.

I’d like to hear it from the man himself, but according to DesignNews Jon Hirschtick, the nicest guy and founder of SolidWorks, was one of the original MIT blackjack team members depicted in the upcoming film, 21.
The movie, based on the book of the real events, stars Kevin Spacey who leads a group of MIT student to huge winnings in Vegas.
The part I doubt they embellish is when one of the guys uses about $1 million of that coin to help startup your favorite CAD company, SolidWorks. Pretty cool if true, and the side of the story you always wish you could hear more about. Game of Blackjack Jon?
Here’s the trailer for the movie, it comes to a theater near you March 28th.

You can now find me on Twitter. As an added bonus when you follow me you will get some great SolidWorks tips and have the opportunity to win some cool stuff, the first of which will be coming up soon.
What’s Twitter?
It’s like a mix of IM and blogging. Some call it micro-blogging. It’s one of the best things I’ve used to share things quickly. There are a number of other social sites I’m on that I’ll share soon, but I’ll be using this quite often to get news and thoughts out quick and give away free stuff.

Looks like Kenny is firing up the furnace at the SolidWorks EV and Beta News Feed. Gettin’ out the cobwebs so to speak. I’m sure they’ve been getting ready for a while, but you just can’t forget about the Beta Feed now.
“Testing, Testing. Hello, is this thing on? More me in the monitor please.”

A lot of you were probably awed by the incredibly weak video I grabbed of the SolidWorks World General Session Intro Animation. Fortunately, someone from SolidWorks saw it, became sick to their stomach and posted the actual animation.
I immediately downloaded it, ripped it to Vimeo, and have posted it below.
Why’s it Rockin’?
It still doesn’t quite do it justice, but you get a lot better idea and can actually hear the audio, instead of the press gabbing. The animation and 180 bpm breakbeat is worth the listen. If anyone can tell me the artist, I may have to reach in the prize closet and send you a couple SolidSmack stickers. (I need to get rid of them cause they’re crap.) My guess is Dieselboy.
In addition…
You can download the video here, put it on a CD and give it to grandma’s quilt group along with some rum-soaked raisins for the ‘thritis. Bumpin.

If you remember the problem I had with SP2.0 that caused (from all indications on my side) me to have my computer wiped and rebuilt, you’ll know I’m glad to see this Service Pack come out so soon.
I’m preparing to load it, this time with WindowsXP System Restore activated. I was stupid and had it off on my last system.
You can, as always, get this new SP from the shiny and still somewhat new Customer Portal.
Update: I’ve decided to hold off till SP3.0. My computer became unusable and is being rebuilt. It’s possible the problem is the video card and may be related or unrelated to the Service Pack. Check the forums and definitely TEST.
Don’t ask me for crackz or free copies. I don’t know how to do that stuff and plus it’s naughty.
