SolidSmack Turns 1 Year Old: Still Cute, But a Bit Sassy

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Well everyone, look at that. We have completely plundered the riches of the web and have a big ol’ bag of incredibly useful tips and information. SolidSmack.com is officially one year old today. (See first post here.)

You all are completely incredible and make this so much fun, I can’t even explain it. I seriously can not believe all the people (and characters) I’ve meet the past year. So spin in a circle, pat your back and yell SolidSmack real loud to celebrate the joy.

Shouts out to the other bloggers, SolidWorks, and especially to the ones that throw down in the comments.

What’s coming up this year?
More wonderful posts, but I want to hear from you. What do you want to see more of? less of? What do you like the most? least?

As many have speculated, a new version of SolidSmack is launching soon and I want to make it as useful for you as possible with content you find interesting. So let me know!

Stats for the past year
Wondering how solidsmack did?

SolidSmack Bares It All Today

naked-day-08.pngToday, SolidSmack is shedding it’s stylesheet and baring it all. It’s official CSS Naked Day and while seemingly a bit silly (which is not beyond this blog) it’s all for the good fun…

to promote Web Standards. Plain and simple. This includes proper use of (x)html, semantic markup, a good hierarchy structure, and of course, a good ‘ol play on words. It’s time to show off your <body>.

Kinda cheesy huh? Not only am I a CAD nerd, I’m also a web nerd. how cool. anyway, this is what SolidSmack looks like without any stylesheet. Not too pretty, but very proper and linear, dont ya think?

SolidSmack Loves You

hearts.jpgBut not in a weird, creepy, I-wish-I-wasn’t-alone-I-think-he-has-a-knife way. Happy Valentine’s Day and here’s to hoping that you’ve found a nice card… and that it takes you less time to pick out, than it does for your models to load.

Oh, look here, I’ve made a special 3D heart for you. You can turn it black if you despise Valentine’s day or be extra geeky and send it to that special someone who puts up with you.

SolidSmack is Back to Rockin’ the Joint

solidsmack-lights-out.jpg

If you tried to come to the site yesterday, it was not rockin’.

Apparently, something (someone) did something that killed my site. I didn’t lose anything, but was up till 2 am rebuilding it.

Fortunately, it turned out for the better. I upgraded to the latest Wordpress 2.3.3 and the K2 (v628) Theme, so we’re back to rockin’ again. It’s a bit wider because I’m getting ready to… I’ll just leave that a surprise, but get ready with hi-fives and headbutts, cause something new is coming up. Whatcha think it is?

SolidWorks 2009: Decimate the Weak

solidworks2009.jpg

I dunno? A bit too strong, ya think?

At SolidWorks World the most anticipated moments are sleeping and the presentation of features on the next release. SolidWorks 2009 is set to launch the third quarter of 2008 and the development crew has some very pretty functionality they’re cooking up.

Do you want SolidWorks to perform better?
Well, ‘scalability’ just happened to be the flaming corporate whip lashed repeatedly every time 2009 was brought up. (Seriously, it was like a whipping, but one you don’t mind so much. ‘Thankyou sir, may I have another’ type of stuff.)

You can’t have too much talk about performance as long as it’s true. And as Mike Puckett mentioned, the SolidWorks team declared the same mantra of performance increases and concern for the user whether they were loopy or not.

So, performance increases are a sure bet. Really? Sure looks like it. Take a read.
