Hello! if you're new here, you may want to subscribe to the SolidSmack RSS feed or to the free email updates. Thanks for visiting!
Have you ever dreamed of joining the ranks of the SolidWorks Elite? Yes? Well, there’s currently 5,327 Certified SolidWorks Professional and you could be the next one… for absolutely FREE. That’s darn right, pick yourself up off the ground.
SolidWorks has opened up the doors to allow anyone who thinks they are worthy to take the Certified SolidWorks Associate (CSWA) or Certified SolidWorks Professional (CSWP) for absolutely no money. The only catch, sign up before November 1st or face ridicule and scorn as everyone else earns a shiny certificate to mount on the wall next their wall calendar of mountain lions.
Here’s the big linky text to entice you.
Bonus!
Tell them Josh at SolidSmack sent you for a strange look of delight and mild bewilderment.
Thanks for the heads up Lenny.

So what if you could go to an island that was 24/7 SolidWorks fun in the sun? Would you go? Well SolidWorks Labs has given you the opportunity for you to make the most of your life online by creating their very own island paradise on Second Life.
I have really tried to avoid Second Life. Too much drama in those online environments. So I signed up. Go check it out and see what you think. Maybe we’ll all end up hanging out there with no inhibitions or ugliness or bugs. Just one giant 3D-part-making community. ahhh. I wonder if there’s a mysterious hatch somewhere.

As if joining in the fun, is not enough, in one of the SolidWorks Tech Alerts, Greg at SolidWorks has asked you to “Joing” them for “SolidWorks Workd” coming up on January 20-23 in San Diego, CA.
Greg, that sounds like alot more fun. I wasn’t sure about going before, but since you put it that way, I’ll be joinging you for sure.

For all you crazy people going to SolidWorks World 2008 and want to know what to expect, the (partial) agenda has been posted. Hit the Click Here button at the top of the Agenda Overview. Looks like there’s plenty to get your fingers into. I’m thinking “Stump the Chump” in Tips and Tricks sounds like fun.

Well, we’re finally at that point in time that SolidWorks releases Service Pack 0.0 of the highly anticipated 2008 version. You’ll be receiving a nice box in 2-4 weeks with hopefully another notepad, but you can of course download it with the speed and agility of the improved Download Manager directly from SolidWorks.

You may have noticed a poll over in the sidebar. Basically, I’m wondering if you are upgrading to SolidWorks 2008. If you just get the feed, I’ve included it here too.

There are a lot of people searching for different things about SolidWorks out there. A lot of the traffic I get is from other sites related to SolidWorks or CAD. In the vein of trying to get more exposure to this site, I read a few blogs to gain some insight on blogging, writing and marketing.
One way to get more traffic is to link to others or have others link to you. Links from a high traffic site help. It doesn’t get more basic than that. That’s exactly what Tim Schroeder of eMonetized.com is having a very unique contest for. He is giving four people the chance to have their own 125 x 125 banner ad shown on John Chow for free. Your can read more about his John Chow Banner Ad Contest Here.
It’s a good idea, because, even though he’s paying for the ad, he’s getting tons of links from other sites. This is good for search engines and therefore getting more people to your site.

A wife that loves you like crazy. It’s her birthday today.
I’ll tell you right now, there’s no better way to state the exactness of what “a meaningful life” can be, besides saying, the friendship that is formed and shared with a spouse is the most powerful elemental necessity in life and that any one moment shared with them in love or pain can destroy any philosophical argument of ‘why’…
and there’s no better way to embarrass a spouse by saying happy birthday to her on your blog. Happy Birthday.

While the Northern Hemisphere is getting ready for SolidWorks World 2008, our friends on the Southern Hemisphere are getting ready for SolidWorks World 2007.
The SolidWorks 2007 International Users Conference, hosted by InterCAD, a SolidWorks reseller, is being held in Melbourne, Australia on September 10th, 2007.
It runs shorter than the User Conference in the States but looks as if it will be just as full a day with Breakout sessions, Exhibits, Tips and Key-note Speakers. And while it’s called SolidWorks 2007, there’s a full hour and a half devoted to SolidWorks 2008.
So if you’re in the Melbourne area, check it out. It will only set you back $275 if you sign up before August 27th.
Here is a link to the agenda.
