Hello! if you're new here, you may want to subscribe to the SolidSmack RSS feed or to the free email updates. Thanks for visiting!
Besides the fact that this site is cooler and less frightening than rabid cyclops kittens, subscribing to SolidSmack will allow you to automatically receive every new article whenever they are published.
This provides a great deal of convenience for you, because you won’t even have to visit this website to access all the latest articles or news. It’s simple too.
I Feel The Need For Feed
The best way I’ve heard it described is, a feed is like a newspaper, a feed reader is like your house. So instead of going to the site each time to read stuff, it’s delivered to your house. With a reader you can have a bunch of sites in one location. That’s convenient.
You see that big orange icon. You’ll usually see something like that on a site with a feed. If you click it, you go to a page that has some different feed readers. I would choose Google Reader. Here’s what it will look like.

You can also subscribe via email to have it show up in your inbox.
That’s really it. If you want a further detail about Feeds and RSS here’s more about Why You Should Subscribe to SolidSmack.

3DCadNews just broke that they are in the know on the Special Guest at SolidWorks World.
If you guess correctly, you’ll win a cheap dinner and be part of causing pandemonium at SolidWorks HQ. Here’s the clues so far…
Clue 1:
Clark Kent thinks he has eyeglasses to die for
Clue 2:
He’s a Man
Clue 3:
He is afraid of heights
Update:
Clue 4:
Craigslist changed his life.
I’ve got it narrowed down to P. Diddy or Elton John, but number two kinda eliminates the later. hmmm.

Ok, so I’m chillin’ over at RockSolid with Jason and he’s like, “Do you need a Free Pass for SolidWorks World 2008 that’ll get you into the general sessions, Sunday and Monday receptions and the Exhibit Hall? Tacton is providing them… for FREE!”
“First,” I said, “Let’s get some burgers, play some Guitar Hero, and let everyone else know about those magic tickets.”
Free Pass here

9 days ago SP1.1 came out. Fixed a few minor things. I’m in the process of upgrading to EV (Early Visibility) 2.0 and so far things are going well. For one, I’m not having to download the whole install, just a measly 1 GB.
If you’re on the EV list and notice anything hit the comments.

I’m working in an assembly with just over 1300 parts and most of them are not in sub-assemblies, which means my Feature Manager is gets pretty long and messy looking.
Now I usually will put things in folders, group things together and eventually end up with a pretty organized structure that looks good in a BOM also.
But here’s the dilemma. It stinks having to sort this each time and remember if M comes before N, so I’m thinking it would nice to have a SolidWorks OCD Option. Something to automatically sort the Feature Manager by it’s partnumber or description or whatever.
Sound nice? If you think so, consider submitting an Enhancement Request or letting me know if I’ve missed something. I’ve logged one under “Ability to Sort Feature Manager Tree by Part Number or Description.”

So some of us got on the phone and gabbed about SolidWorks World and the ensuing riot that will be the “Stump the Chumps” Session, courtesy Ben Edie. You can hear the interaction among us here (Episode 127).

I’ve never met these guys, but we’ll all be together on stage as you challenge us to answer the unanswerable. You game?

Maybe you jumped on the Dell deal last month and got yourself a $500 gifty for a Dell Monitor.
This month, if you’re thinking of buying SolidWorks, the deal has been sweetened. You’ll get a $1200 dollar coupon for a nVidia Quadro FX 4600 graphics card. That’s an even 50% off what those badboys usually cost and about $250 less than the best price you can find online. Here’s a great review.
So, if you need a mega-graphics crunching machine, jump on this deal and save enough to buy a 32″ LCD. You have till December 31st.

Apparently… they have fixed something. You can download it but but the SPR’s are not listed yet. Maybe they just added more… feelings… and smiles.

Have you ever had a question about SolidWorks you think nobody can answer? Here’s your chance.
Some of you may be going to SolidWorks World 2008. One of the sessions is called Stump the Chump, hosted by Ben over at SolidMentor, where a panel of SolidWorks Bloggers, Matt Lombard, Rob Rodriguez, Ricky Jordan, Lou Gallo, Jeff Mirlsola, Lenny Kikstra, Ben and I, will be fielding questions from the audience. We’re doing a warm-up this Wednesday.
Got any impossible questions? …pertaining to SolidWorks?

In a recent poll I held, some of you were waiting to upgrade to SolidWorks 2008 till SP1.0 came out. Psst, hey, it’s out. Whatcha waiting for?I just installed it with the Installation Manager and had no problems at all on my XP machine besides what Jason also came across with the full installation download. No big deal though, just took a little while to suck through the straw.
Post some issues if you got’em.
