Burton Car Design Competition Using SolidWorks

by Josh on July 16, 2007 · Comments

burtoncar.jpgBurton Car Company, the largest sports car manufacturer in the Netherlands, holds a design competition each year for a new concept sports car.

The 2007 grand prize is a €12,000 Burton kitcar. The concept has to be designed in SolidWorks based on an available chassis and meet specs for kitcar manufacturability.

SolidWorks.nl, HP, W3D, and 3D Connexion are some of the various partners in the competition.

The contest for this year ended June 30th and I happened to come across one of the contestants entries on flickr. After looking at the rest I will have to say it’s definitely one of the best. It was rendered in PhotoWorks. Here’s some pictures of this cool concept.

“Burton Car Design Competition Using SolidWorks” thangy is a way to get cheap slave labor to do your designing for you when you run out of ideas. Even if they build your design, or make a kit from it, you couldn't put it on the road in the good old US of A, because the US Gov. has the big brother idea that you would go out and commit mayhem, killing innocent squirrels and small dogs along the way unless it is constructed to meet their standards. I built a kit car a loooong time ago and it was a piece of cake to get it registered and on the road. It was an act of foolish young boy bravado to keep it between the lines and going the intended direction.
Enough already on the down side. Who said life is easy, they have to catch you first!
I would like to see the designs and even ... I guess I've gotten too old to build another car, house or do anything but sit behind this computer and punch keys and drive a mouse.
